Enzo (Jean Reno, Léon, The Da Vinci Code) and Jacques (Jean-Marc Barr, Breaking the Waves, Dogville) have known each other for a long time. Their friendship started in their childhood days in the Mediterranean where they shared a love for diving. After Jacques' father dies in a diving accident, the two lose contact.

Now an adult, Enzo is living in Sicily where for six years he has been the uncontested free diving world champion. He sends for Jacques, who is living in the Peruvian Andes, and insists that he competes for the title. Jacques comes to Sicily and easily beats Enzo. The competition mounts as each man dive at increasingly life-threatening depths. But when Jacques' girlfriend Johana (Rosanna Arquette, After Hours, Crash) arrives from New York and pleads for the risk-taking to stop, events takes an unexpected turn, leading to an unforgettably dark, mysterious, and torturously beautiful conclusion...

 Big Blue for real

Don't listen to gwaihirium. There are 3-4 shots which are very grainy, which last a minute or so, but the rest of the film is pristine. In some parts, one of the best transfers I've seen. Both versions of the film, including the extended director's cut + an hour and a half doco - not bad. You like the movie, you have to own this!

This is the version we've all been waiting for!

Here's the BR of the film in its English version!
Finally , The Big Blue is given the treatment it deserves.

Finaly got this the other day, and boy do i regret buying it. The picture looks crisper but after a few minutes wathing i realise that the picture is just full of grain. Lookes like the added a sharpen fx and streched the resolution up from dvd.. NO GOOD !

The Big Blue is suppose to have grain

What are you talking about! Film is suppose to have grain so stop moaning you kiddies and get out of the home and go to the cinema where you'll see lots and lots of lots of film grain.

I might consider buying this as this is yet another one of those 70mm Dolby Stereo releases from the classics 80's
