every now and then a movie comes along which can be described with one word ''nice''
the film tells the story ( based on a true and on-going story ) of the 'mee' family after wife and mother 'katherine' dies leaving a gap in the familys life impossible to fill.
'benjamin' decides he and his two children 'dylan' and 'rosie' need a new start in life.
'benjamin' sets out to find a new home, several viewings later they are shown a house that's just perfect along with plenty of ground, after hearing a 'roar' the estate agent advises 'benjamin' that the property came with a run-down zoo.
well the story continues with the emense struggle to bring the zoo back up to scratch and hopefully re-open.
the story is touching, often funny, a great family movie.......simply ''a must see'
its is very nice to see that in a world full of misery and high petrol prices that this simple but effective story is an absolute winner. a great family movie, both emotional and funny and based on true events. its never going to win an oscar but sometimes we all need a simplistic, easy movie to lift our spirits. very nice.
Cameron Crowe's return to the director chair after a long absence is a heartwarming and well intentioned family pleaser that hits the mark when something comfortable is needed.
In the wake of his wife's death Matt Damon's struggling widower spontaneously decides to uproot his family and buys a zoo in the California countryside. But it's in need of a whole lot of work to get it back up an running and as he and his family struggle to move on with a new life the challenges increase.
Solid and entertaining family stuff it has a good cast and (being a Cameron Crowe film) a none too shabby soundtrack either. Perfect for the whole family.
We Bought A Zoo (2011) is a comedy drama starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Patrick Fugit, Elle Fanning and Thomas Haden Church.
Loosely based on a real life story this movie has some really sweet moments delivered by its terrific cast. Matt Damon plays an older character than we are used to but does a great job. Scarlett Johansson also shines in a less than glamourous role.
Director Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) has a talent for using music in his movies and this one is no exception. Crowe chooses the perfect music for each scene and this creates some truely touching moments.
The only complaint about this movie is that at times Crowe lays on the emotion a little too thick. Some of the sweeter moments can at times fall into soppy soap opera sentimentality.
Its a return to form for Crowe who disappointed with his last movie Elizabethtown but its still a long way short of being as good as Crowe classics Jerry Maguire or Almost Famous.
