Dirty Dancing: 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

i purchased this film for my wife, it arrived yesterday 25.10.07, we sat down and watched it, its an excellent film with an excellent story & sound track, but i was disappointed to see not much improvement in picture quality between blu ray & normal dvd format... i know the film is 20 years old, but with todays technology "liongate" could of done a better transfer of picture quality on blu ray... if you already own the film on normal dvd, think twice before buying this on blu ray, as if you have a blu ray player you may have a hd tv, which will upscale the picture quality to 1080i anyway.. so the choice is yours.

Now firstly im not reviewing the film in any way shape or form.I actually like it and thats why i bought it on Blu Ray thinking i should upgrade my collection.
What a mistake to make the picture is terrible it is very dark and fuzzy most of the time if its a bright sunny scene you cant make out the characters it is that bad.And the audio oh my god the audio is terrible we had out T.V up on 55 and still had to strain to hear the dialogue.
This seems to be the story for any older film that makes the transfer to Blu Ray i have held out high hopes for so many 80's and 90's classics but from now on will save Blu Ray purchases for recent films only and the classics can stay on DVD which by the way is 100% better than this poor version.

Luckily this was rented and not purchased. The quality does not do blu ray any justice at all. Usually with these types of moive, the film makers will return to the original source and clean up the transfer, moving the dirt, residue and digitally adding to the quality, this would make any grain, bland colours and dark scenes restored.
Unfortunatley, this seems to have not been done. I would honeslty recommend that you buy the dvd version and use the dvd upscaler, as the quality is basically the same.
The only plus point is that the sound on blu ray has been enhanced, but this do not make up for a title that was released as blu ray quality, when it clearly is not.

Great film - incredibly disappointing with picture quality on Blu-ray. If you already own this film on DVD, or VHS for that matter, don't waist your money on the Blu-ray until they do a proper job of it!

If you've already bought this movie on a normal D.V.D then don't waste any money on this blueray version as the blueray quality is the worst i've ever seen!
