The future is dead. During an ecological collapse the world has evolved into nothing but a decaying mass of pollution. The earth's inhabitants circle orbit within crowded space stations and desperate living conditions. Their only hope of paradise is the distant planet Rhea. But that takes money, lots of money. With the hope of funding a trip to Rhea young medic Laura has taken up employment upon the cargo space freighter Kassandra. But it's a ship with a dark and deadly secret and Laura's about to make a gruesome discovery. There's something strange hiding in the cargo bay, something watching her, something that's waiting to kill.

A truly terrifying sci-fi masterpiece, Cargo's claustrophobic atmosphere and haunting climax have made it one of the most talked about releases of the year. A thrilling and intense dystopian nightmare that sets the controls to the heart of fear.

Did they actually see the film?

The film is good for a low budget european film. Interesting story and nice dilemmas in the end. It starts out as a thriller and ends as drama/action, I would say. Which means the description in here and on the cover is WAAAAAY OFF. It actually does the film a disservice. You expect a cross between alien and event horizon, and get something completely different and much less scary. Even though it is a good film, you end up feeling you didn't get what you wanted.

BTW: I don't agree with the reviewer who says the film has realistic space lighting. Often times there was too much light from opposite the sun (you have to have SOME light from that direction in a film, but in reality there would be no visible light). The effects often lack in detail and are sometimes poorly lit.

 An interesting tale.

Firstly, this is a German language film with English subs.

On a purely asthetic front the picture quality on show is remarkable, it is a very strong transfer which highlights the film well, the FX are very good in general with some lovely space scenes which command a great sense of scale and weight, only really the cargo ship Kassandra itself is a let down as it looks very CGI whereas the rest of the fx are very passable indeed and don't show budget limitations.
Indeed the sets themselves are very good......simply oozing 'Alien' style and camera sweeps, in fact the films that spring to mind here for various reasons im sure you will work out if you see the film are:
Alien, Blade Runner, Saturn 3, Babylon 5, The Island, The Matrix, Outland, Moon, Pitch Black, Silent Running and 2001 A Space Odyssey.

The film for me started better than it finished as i personally felt the plot start to unravel.............i think that for all the effort gone into it a more horror orientated take like Alien or Event Horizon would have been better as they certainly dressed the sets well enough to do it.

Overall i was left wanting more but it still an average to good sci-fi romp well worth a look just for the 'Alien' fans like me to smile and recognise the homage to the sets and shots!!!

Great movie! Great picture and sound!

What a great movie! Yes, the sound is in stereo 2.0! But on my Harmon Cardon AVR 255, the sound automatically gets changed into impressive surround 5.1! So i guess it depends a bit on what system one uses! I had a great time watching this movie! Tell all you`re friends about this movie! A first class (classic) sci-fi movie!!!

Stunning what can be done on a small butget

Decent acting and very good special effects. This movie is in German. No problem for Europeans who always speak more than only English. It is not a fast going movie, and it's a bit old-fashioned in its production. For SF lovers, I recommend this film.

 astounding picture quality.

it has to be said that the picture quality of this bluray is amazing. almost 3d super sharp with brilliant contrast and totally realistic lighting for the space scenes. it is only let down by the stereo sound which is a shame. true, the stereo is very lively but full surround would have made this a 5/5.
