Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us? Matt Damon stars in the thriller The Adjustment Bureau as a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realises he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue the only woman he's ever loved across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York.

On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt)-a woman like none he's ever known. But just as he realizes he's falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart.

David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself-the men of The Adjustment Bureau - who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path...or risk everything to defy Fate and be with her.

The Adjustment Bureau is written for the screen and directed by George Nolfi (writer of Ocean's Twelve, co-writer of The Bourne Ultimatum). It is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick (Total Recall, Minority Report and Blade Runner).

 A good yarn...

Thoughtful, well acted, well executed, original, clever and entertaining. I wasn't sure at the time whether all those elements were represented but in hindsight I can say that I beleive they wer as I have the urge to watch it again. Blunt and Damon are excellent, the film unfolds with humour and inteligence and it entertained, which is what it is all about. Yeah, get a copy and enjoy.

 didnt get much better

Tried so hard to enjoy this, but the quote on the sleeve saying 'Bourne meets Inception' is closest to the mark. NOT up to the slick action of the Bourne films, not as clever as the best part of or special effects of Inception, and think thats where it ends. Clever idea that didnt come off to me. Didnt know that wearing a hat was so vital getting round New York! (youll see). Sound quality was annoying, had to keep adjusting it up then minutes later pressing 'down' button as it was upsetting dog next door, no happy medium, may have been a bad disc, but worth noting, especially if you are watching with headphones. If you have seen Inception, you may think it would have been better if youd seen this first, I think I would, but cant really compare to Bourne as only the amount of running about compares.

 Worth watching

Thoroughly enjoyable film that is worth watching. Matt Damon really pulls you in and the element of mystery and mysticism surrounding the Adjustment Bureau keeps you intrigued and interested. The chemistry between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt is full-on believable so you find yourself wanting an ending where they can be together, though you really don't know which way it'll go...

The reason for 4 stars is because I have to take into account that, although the film is good, quite a lot is left unexplained at the end and its a bit annoying - I pay for your film for YOU to tell me the ending and expain the things in the middle, not for ME to sit and ponder on it and make it up. I know some people like films that leave blanks and let you think about it for yourself but for me it was just a bit disappointing when the things I waited to understand weren't explained.

As I say in my title though, it's definitely worth a watch. Watch it and see for yourself!

Matt Damon is David Norris - a rising New York star politician whose impulses have at times gotten him into trouble in the press. On the eve of election to high office, with revelations of old antics sinking his hopes of reaching high office a chance hotel bathroom encounter with Elise (Emily Blunt) inspires David to take his defeat and move on.

But despite the attraction between them, other forces have plans for David which Elise is not a part of. And they will make sure that David's life goes according to their plan for him, not that of David's free will. The semi-Hitchcockian chase that results incorporates comedy, caper, thriller, conspiracy film and also sci-fi that entertains even as it struggles to decide what sort of film it wants to really be. What does keep it afloat is that Blunt and Damon have between them genuine onscreen chemistry from the moment that they meet. And in a film with a love story anchoring all the crazy things going on elsewhere that's what you have to have! Blunt and Damon have it going on and that keeps the film going even if it and writer/director George Nolfi seem less able (or unwilling perhaps) to delve into the larger implications of his story.

What remains though is a solid, if at times also silly - in a pleasing way I though - romantic caper thriller with some sci-fi overtones that more than works more than it doesnt.
