 Grain versus DNR

| | See all green4head's reviews (6)

Does this have grain? Yep, as some have said quite a lot in some scenes. But film has grain, some film stock more than others. I wonder if all the people screaming about film grain complain when a transfer has been DNR'd to hell? I'll take grain every time. I would prefer less than is present in some scenes here but I would still rather have the grain than over enthusiastic application of DNR.

If you can get past the grain issue, this is actually a very good (not great) transfer. The HD detail is very good and the colour timing issue of the previous DVD version seems to have been fixed. People saying the DVD (and even VHS!) look better - sorry, you need your eyes testing.

What is noticible are the matte lines but that's to be expected with effects laden 80s films given the HD treatment. The sound is solid.

Overall this is the best this film has looked and anyone saying different is mental. Yes it can look better - a 4k remaster would be nice - but it is FAR from 1 star as some have rated it.

 What a disappointment!

Firstly let me say I am a massive Ghostbusters fan and have been literally counting down the days for this release. Oh how disappointed I was.. This is one of my all time favourite films, but it is has falling victim to a poor high def transfer. There is random grain present in pretty much 80 percent of the film.. some scenes look pretty good, but there is no consistency with the high quality.. it actually looks horrible and really put me off watching the film through to the end.

I own about 30 Bluray films and so far and this is the only one with this grain issue. Rambo: First Blood was made in 1982 and is a stunning Bluray transfer, unfortunately Ghostbusters is a massive letdown on Bluray and actually looks better on the original DVD with 1080P upscaling.

If you are a fan then I would say buy it just to add to your collection, but overall as a Bluray transfer this is poor and painful to watch.

Poor transfer for such a classic movie

Bad picture quality for blu ray grainy as hell! a pity as this is a favorite of mine and i was looking forward to great hi def transfer. i hope they release a better quality version in the future but for now il stick with the DVD copy..

 Poor quality

Having been a ghostbusters fan since the first release, i was looking forward to seeing it on bd. The effects could have easily been redone or at least remastered - same with the resolution of the film. Overall i would have been better off saving myself £10 and buying both films on dvd as my bd player upscales dvds anyway. Overall sony could have made more of an effort for the fans and really brought this film back to life on bd.

 Dissapointed

I thought they might have done a better job of this transfer, seeing as its a 25th anniversay of the film, quite grainey in places.
But it's such a great film, so it has to be in my collection.
Special features aren't too bad i suppose, could also have been better.
If your a fan, buy it, if not it's not one to show off your sytem, not visually anyway.
