Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton (The Corpse Bride, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Nightwatch) join forces to produce wunderkind director Shane Acker's distinctively original and thrilling tale. 9 stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and features the music of Danny Elfman.

When 9 (The Lord of the Ring's Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

Beautifly animated, dark and imaginative story

9 is one of the most visually stunning and beautifly animated CGI movies I have seen in some time. The story isn't your run-of-the-mill, Disney style affair either. The plot is dark, and unsettling, and it deserves its 12 rating. This isn't a toy story, but if you like your stories a little less toy-like, a little more twilight-zone and your plots a little less spoon feed 9 might be the story for you.

 Dark and damm right Brilliant

Very dark and disturbing animated film, not one for the kids. But it offers you great visual effectas and animation, with a good solid story and great vocie acting. May not be the longest film out there, but all in all great movie.

 Dark,different and not disappointing.

I got this as part of the 2 for 15 offer,it was purely a random choice and luckily it turned out to be a good one. It really gets you thinking "what on earth is going on in tim burtons head" and where does he get his ideas from. Im not sure what children will think to it but as a 30 year old i enjoyed it,so with its 12 certificate id dare say its good viewing for people of all ages, families etc although there is some minor violence and some monsters that the younger ones might not like. It was the perfect length for me too, anything over an hour and a half i usually get bored so at approx 80 minutes this was great for me. To be totally honest it got a bit tedious at one point but it lasted all of a couple of minutes as theres no shortage of action cropping up all over the place,i got really into it and by the end i knew each different charachter and their strengths. The animation is fantastic and the charachters are good but theres something lacking thats keeping it from being a 5 star rating but i cant put my finger on it.....all in all its a good watch.

 Great visuals

There are some excellent post-apocalyptic visuals in this refreshing take on the animation genre (sack people!). And the voice acting is well delivered. Though the plot feels a bit stretched and contains a tad too many cliches for my taste. An enjoyable animated feature, but no classic.

 A bit lower than 9

In a post-apocalyptic landscape, the last surviving cloth dolls struggle to not be picked off by some aggressive mechanical monsters (it makes a bit more sense when you see it). While this upscaling to feature film length of Acker's Oscar-winning cartoon short is beautifully rendered, with some gorgeous detailing, it's a very hard film to pin down. Too scary for small kids, very bleak in its outlook, it's very difficult to determine who it's actually for.
