Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) challenges the system and defies conventional wisdom when he is forced to rebuild his small-market team, on a limited budget. Despite opposition from the old guard, the media, fans and their own field manager (Philip Seymour Hoffman), Beane - with the help of a young, number-crunching, Yale-educated economist (Jonah Hill) - develops a roster of misfits and changes the way the game is played forever.

I bought this because I liked the look of the cast. I was expecting another League of Their Own but no, it's just Brad Pitt in a bad mood being a bit cocky with an Aaron Sorkin script.
Sadly, the far batter, Phillip Seymour Hoffman had to play second fiddle to Pitt and Jonah Hill.
Rent this before you buy. Couldnt even sell it on Ebay so I am stuck with it.

Moneyball was absolutely brilliant, I'm very much into sport however Baseball is one that I genuinely know nothing about. Despite this, it was still amazing to watch, so please don't shy away if you aren't into Baseball or sports for that matter. This is one of two films I have actually clapped at (Oddly enough the other was a Brad Pitt movie). Once again Brad Pitt doesn't fail to convey exceptional acting ability. Jonah Hill surprised me with his performance, a far cry from his usual comedy roles. It was also nice to see some familiar faces in the lesser roles. It doesn't matter what genre of film you are into, if you are generally a film lover, this is a must watch. You wont be disappointed. Unless your an idiot.

 Cracking Baseball Movie

I like baseball. Brad Pitt is excellent in this, playing a real life story of an Oakland Athletics general manager, who frustrated by his team losing their best players to other richer clubs came up with a system of scouting/rating players which temporarily brought them success. It is a fairly simple premise, with a good script, nice support from Jonah Hill and an under-used Phillip Seymour Hoffman. This is a nice feel good movie. You certainly don't have to be a baseball fan, but one for sports fans maybe and a very good performance (Oscar Nominated) from Brad Pitt.

This is a film review not a disc review.

The movie is great, fantastic performances all round, well worth Brad Pitt's oscar nod. Excellent value for blu-ray

Batters up, this flick packs plenty of swing

This film probably did not make it to the Box Office because the film is played out around the game of baseball. Please dont let this put you off giving this a watch. Whether you like baseball or not, this film succeeds in focusing on a compelling story without over-dramatic or overly played slow-motion shot, drawn-out game segments.

That this is based on a real story adds to the impact of the polished performances from Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. The theme is overcoming adversity. The pace is fast and complementary to the storyline. The script is grounded and smart without every feeling artificial. If you enjoyed The Pursuit of Happyness and Jerry Maguire, you will like this one.
