Acclaimed writer Andrew Davies turns his talents to one of Charles Dicken's most brilliant novels - arguably the greatest ever depiction of Victorian London, from its glittering heights to its very lowest depths - adapting it into a series of half-hour episodes. At the court of Chancery, the interminable suit of Jarndyce and Jarndyce becomes the centre of a web of relationships at all levels - from aristocrat Sir Leicester Dedlock, to Little Jo, the lowly crossing sweeper - and a metaphor for the decay and corruption at the heart of English society. A skillfully crafted thriller; an epic feast of characters and storylines; and a passionate indictment of the legal system, Bleak House is as searingly relevant today as it was in the mid-19th Century.

 Beautiful "Period Drama"

Beautiful Miniseries. Great Actors. Stunning cinematography. Excellent adaptation. It will captivate you chapter by chapter like an unmissable novel. You will not consider yourselves satisfied until the last minute of episode 15. There's murder, drama, mystery, love, death, blackmail, secrets, all set in a 19th Century London. You can find all the typical Dickens' elements: poverty, greed, social prejudice, ambition etc. Bleak House is a masterpiece in Television History.

 Absolutely AMAZING!!!

As a fan of Dicken's work but never having read or seen an adaption of Bleak House I was delighted to find this gem of a TV series. I agree completely with other reviewers here when I say this is an AMAZING adaption and without doubt the best feast of Dickens I've ever seen. Amazing cast, amazing script, wonderful characters, addictive in the extreme. I watched it over 3-4 nights and couldn't help but "watch one more". Amazing performances by all but especially by Charles Dance, Gillian Anderson (who is more beautiful the older she gets) and Phil Davis. It doesn't get nay better than this.

 BLEAK IT IS NOT!!!

I bought this without having seen it on television and I have to say that the production is first class. Charles Dickens purists need not worry if the cast has some unexpected actors such as Alistair McGowan, Matthew Kelly and Johnny Vegas, as they all play their parts admirably. It also has big stars like Gillian Anderson (X Files) and Charles Dance so it is a serious series. The bluray quality is very good, as is the sound quality. It is split into half-hour episodes, which might annoy a few people (one hour episodes might have been better), but once into the story you cannot wait for the next episode. The three disc set is a bargain. Buy it .... you will not be disappointed.

This seried looks stunning on Blu-ray, picture quality is exceedinly sharp and smooth with out a flaw.

Sound quality is also very high with the beautiful soundtrack spread across the surrounds and some good directional placing.
