 the best war film made

How anyone could give this film anything less than 5 stars staggers me. It is poetic, beautiful, emotionally charged, brilliantly acted, as well as full of some truly amazing battle scenes. You can smell the sweat and put yourself in the shoes of these soldiers more than any other war film. there are 'big' themes: , man vs. nature, man's role in the world, futility of war, religion..existential stuff- but none of it overshadows what is an AMAZING film that should have won every Oscar going.. if I could, I'd give it 6 stars.

 An Awasome Movie Experience!

The Thin Red Line is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen with stunning settings and striking imagery with a haunting soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and it will stay with you forever. If (and its a big if) you get it! Some people just do not understand this movie and that is fine but do not expect a gung-ho pro western war flick like private Ryan or we were soldiers because you will be disappointed. This is totally immersive and draws you into the lives of the characters. you care about each and everyone of them and their fate. The war scenes are brutal and well balanced. It is quite a long movie at nearly 3 hours (with 3 more hours left of the cutting room floor) with a host of big names. Some people say this movie is slow but I disagree, to me it is perfectly paced and a joy to behold. Reviews of the region 1 bluray criterion version give it 5/5 for video and audio. I am praying this is the same print.

 Pure cinematic beauty.

This was one of the best war movies ever made. And now that its coming to Blu-ray, it will look and sound incredible. This is not a conventional war film, but one that is told with beauty and respect for life.

This is a thinking man's Hollywood art film...and that is something that you don't find everyday.

You'll love this film or hate it !
I love it, as it is a very original take on a war movie. The settings are so beautiful, it's at times more a nature film, showing us as we kill each other, nature still carries on.
From the opening sequence as a Alligator slips into a swamp, to the long grass blowing in the breeze. You can tell this is a Terrence Malick movie , as the pace is very steady. But also it's a war movie and when the battes arrive they rearly do add contrast to the natural side of the movie. This is a vey rich and rewarding film if you have got the patiance for it. I can understand people not enjoying the film, as on my first viewing in the cinema way back in 1998 it did leave me cold.
But on the second and third viewing the film opens up, and you can see the many different levels the film works on. This has to be one of the most beautiful films ever made. Give it a go, watch it twice, and you might find this is a excellent film.
This is the version of the film we have waited for as the original DVD release lacked bonus features. The Transfer is amazing and the detail to the landscape is breathtaking, the sound is awesome from the simple sound of the breeze blowing across the long grass to the thunderous booms of the explosions.Even Hans Zimmers masterly music score has been given a brilliant hi-def update.
The film is a much forgotten about classic.
