Fantastic film & complete bargain at 5.99, PQ & SQ on the Blu Ray are excellent, get this if you enjoyed Kung Fu hustle, The Good the Bad & the Weird.
I agree with Hardboiledcop on his review : this movie is a hidden gem.
Aesthetically speaking, the movie is stunning, reminding of recent movies like "300" and, in its essence, it manages quite well to mix stunning sword fights... within a western movie, taking most of its codes.
Some aspects could have been better but if you're looking for a beautiful, well executed brainless action movie, you've got a winner.
Don't be put off by the lame trailer - it does not show what a great gem of film this is. They should sack the marketing dept. This film is well worth watching...if you are a fan of samuari/martial arts film, this should be an 'instant' buy. The mix with the Wild West is a great idea and Kate Bosworth is fab. Action scenes are well done -even with the CGI touches..
I really liked this film. A mix of samurai and western filmed 300 style.
There were a few slow moments, but there were some visually impressive action scenes that far made up for them. Not too violent, sure there is blood, but no major gore/bad language or sex.
All the cast did a great job without hamming it up too much.
highly recommended.
This strange blend of Western, Action and Martial Arts genres is a cinematic oddity, which works reasonably well. The film is visually brilliant with a high quality aesthetic to both the action and effects. With the only problems coming from the one-sidedness of The Warrior's sword fights, still there is plenty of fun to be had, even if cliches are often thrown out. The cast is reasonably decent and do their job well, the standout being a deliriously insane madman villain The Colnol, played with a dedication by Danny Huston. The sets and cinematography are rendered and filmed with an odd sense of insanity and strangeness, with some set-piece battles which work rather well. Still some of the problems plague the film, like some rather heavy ideas being underdelivered in a few misguded scenes. Still this is rather an interesting project, which despite being the biggest (or runner-up) flop of 2010, has few ideas to enjoy.
