I agree that this film does not transfer onto 'blu-ray' perfectly...but yes it is better defenition than 'dvd' also the surround sound is not in truth that great.
The film.............love it...despite it's adverse reviews at the time of release...it remains in my view ...well worth watching.
The film was released at a time when 'kevin costner's' career was taking a down-turn, after great films such as 'dances with wolves' 'jfk' and the entertaining 'robin hood' he appeared to struggle to find good parts in films which gave us disasters like 'waterworld'
In 'wyatt earp' the film trys to show how he became the legendary 'marshall'.....in fact..the film takes about '65' minutes to give 'wyatt' a badge, never-the- less everything has a purpose.
The portrayel of a short and bloody out-come to the 'famous' 'gunfight at the 'o.k' coral was probably nearer the truth than many previous films had portrayed.
Of course 'western' fans will allready have compared this to other 'wyatt earp' movies down the years of which there have been many..the most notable being in my view 'gunfight at the o.k coral' and 'kurt russell's' 'tombstone' both good, but different.
This film for me try's to give a wider in-sight into the 'man'
Worth buying or just watching.....yes.
If you love your western genre, then I recomend you get wyatt earp on bluray! The quality is much better then the dvd version. It's not a perfect high definition film. Hence me only giving this film 4 out of 5. I feel it could have been better. In some parts of the film you can tell its a high def film easily but in the desert scenes can be a bit grainy. This maybe due to the fact of the original filming or maybe its some thing to do with the transfer to bluray. The firework scene in the begining shows off the high def beautifuly.
To sum it up. It's not a perfect bluray film. But its still much better then the dvd version. A worthy investment in your bluray collection
Simply the best Blu-ray disc I have seen so far. The photography in the film was beautiful anyway and now it's is crystal clear.
It's typical that when you want one Wyatt Earp movie two come along in a matter of a few months. Tombstone was the much lower budget version released before and then in the summer of 1994 this big budget epic version of the lengend was released. In this case the under-dog won, Tombstone was a hit at the box-office whilst this suffered due to mixed reviews and poor box-office takings. The two films although based around the same events are very different. Tombstone plays fast and loose with the facts and is a straight up action film and does not aim to be anything else. On the other hand Wyatt Earp is a fact based story of the man who became a legend and at over three hours best suits home viewing. Costner was at the top of his game when this was made and he's perfectly cast as the Lawman in a lawless land. The film charts his life from a teenager, a wanted man, to the iconic figure. The support cast is great Dennis Quade matches Val Kilmer in every way as Doc Holiday, Gene Hackman is brilliant as Earp's father, and Also Michael Masden, Bill Pullmen and Tom Sizemore are great also, if slightly under written. Although a long film the action is well staged and the attention to detail is fantastic, We all know the gun figh at the O.K. Corral, but most of us did not know the full facts leading up to it and the aftermath. This is where Wyatt Earp is more fascinating than it quick on the draw cousin (Tombstone) Now almost twenty years after it's release Wyatt Earp is slowly becoming the classic western it intended to be.
It's a great shame the Blue Ray extras are a carry over from the split disc DVD edition.
