Captain Stanley (Ray Winstone) captures fugitive Burns brothers Charley (Guy Pearce) and Mikey (Richard Wilson) at the scene of bloody rape and murder. Informing Charley that he must kill his older brother, Arthur (Danny Huston), in order to be set free, Stanley drags Mikey to a decrepit jailhouse while he waits for Charley to carry out the deed...

Director John Hillcoat's second collaboration with melancholic musician Nick Cave (here contributing the film's screenplay and soundtrack), is a taut character study of desperation amid the mesmerising backdrop of the 19th century Australian outback.

 Disappointing

This could have been a very nice experience. However, due to the audio mix it was for the most part hard to follow the conversation. To compose a Blu-ray disc in this day and age without the option of English subtitles is simply unbelievable.

 Beautiful film.

First of all I would like to say I had no issues with the audio on this disc, I could hear it all fine.

The film itself is beautiful, and complete. Very good music choices and they play at just the right moment. The story is simple but has interesting characters and great acting. Well worth the small price.

 Great Movie!

No problems at all with recommending this movie, i loved the acting and it was refreshing to see Guy Pierce again in a great movie, the story whas just short of breathtaking. The cinematography whas equally great. I also loved the second movie of this director John Hillcoat: The road, much better than The Book of Eli, wich has a similar subject. The Proposition is however a very raw film, and that could explain why some people didn't like it. I did buy the American version wich has English subtitles, and isn't hard to follow at all.

 Great movie ..but

Great movie also the 1080p conversion is great. But I must agree with my fellow reviewer. No subtitles and under par audio mix makes it hard to follow conversation.
