Sam Raimi returns to the genre where he made his name, with shocks and laughs aplenty. Featuring action handled with all the style and verve for which Raimi has become renowned, Drag Me To Hell is a rollercoaster ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat for every pulse-pounding second.

Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, Professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home.

In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine return her life to normal, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable: how far will she go to break free of the curse?

I did, I laughed more than I have for some time, odd considering the content. Brilliant Sam Raimi movie. Not scary really cos you know somthing daft is about to happen and when it does it is ham of the highest order. Would I watch it again, yeah for laugh in the same way I watched Evil Dead 2 and 3 again. It was largly entertaining, certainly not too serious with a couple of great gross out moments that still make me chuckle now writing this. I can understand why some people hated it and thought it terrible but it IS NOT A SERIOUS HORROR MOVIE. It is a comedy with some gore and stuff thrown in, the eye in the pie was perticularly amusing. Great stuff. Nice transfer too and great HD sound.

 A Disgrace

This is one of the the worst movies I have ever seen in my life, and trust me, I have seen some very bad horrors. How anyone can get scared from the mediocre special affects and dreary acting is beyond me. The Evil Dead scared me more and I was expecting so much more from Sam Raimi. I almost walked out of the cinema, but my friend was enjoying it, so I had to stay!!! Instead, look out for Last House on the Left or The Uninvited.

there has been many so called 'scary flicks' in recent years...but....very few manage to cause any genuine tension, this one does buck the trend some, i would defy anyone to not find at least two or three sequences during which you become startled-'jump' a little ?? ( if you don't you just ain't watching the movie or your'e asleep or ??? )
the co-writer and director 'sam raimi' is responsible for one of the few films that have truly un-nerved me down the years, believe me i've seen 100's if not over a 1,000 horror flicks down the years and very few really get to me.
this film is creepy and does have it's moments of 'horror' there is as with most one or two scenes that are a little silly, however overall it is well worth a spin.

 Best film of the year!

This film is a masterpiece, it walks the line between horror and comedy perfectly. It's no mistake that this is one of the most critically acclaimed horror titles of all time. I only wish Hollywood could produce films of this calibre more regularly instead of awful re-makes of tired old franchises.

This is a welcome return to Director Sam Raimi's roots after the mega budget Spider-Man trilogy.
Drag Me To Hell is nothing more than an old school comic horror, and feels very in line with his earlier Evil Dead trilogy. But this time around there will be nothing to get the censors in a frenzy about, as with the early 80's banning of so called video nasties where Raimi was actually dragged through hell and back with the first Evi Dead movie.
This film is a great, scary and very funny horror about a curse, but Director Raimi uses all his old school shock tactics to dizzying effect, with mental camera angles, brilliant derranged sound effects and some fantastic bouts of bugs and goo, that do have a sly nod and wink at the over the top moments of Evil Dead, but what really makes the film work is it's sense of humor, as it has fun with the viewer, and no doubt will please fans of Raimi's earlier work. This film is a modern horror classic and it is actually a very refreshing change from most of the torture horror movies that have flooded our cinemas over the past five years.
The film never takes it's self serious, but has so many jolts I advise not to be sat with a hot drink on your lap whilst watching.
The Blue Ray transfer has all the bonus features of the DVD edition, but also includes the unseen edition of the film as the films gore was trimmed in the U.S. to get the PG 13 certificate instead of the dreaded "R", but to be honest there's hardly any difference apart from blood spraying out of the mouth aswell as the nose and the demise of the kitty.
Apart from that the film is just as much brilliant spooky fun as the cinema version.
Groovey!
