Antarctica; cold, desolate, nothing but ice and snow for miles and miles. Carrie Stetko is a U.S Marshal, and she's made the ice her home. In its vastness, she has found a place where she can forget her troubled past and feel at peace... until someone commits a murder in her jurisdiction and that peace is shattered. The murder is one of five men scattered across the continent, and he has more reason to hide than just the slaying. Several ice samples were taken from the area around the body, and the depth of the drilling signifies something particular was removed. Enter Lily Sharpe, who wants to know what was so important that another man's life had to be taken for it. But are either of the women prepared for the secrets and betrayals at the core of the situation?

Based on the award-winning graphic novel of the same name and starring Kate Beckinsale, Whiteout is a chilling thriller from legendary producer Joel Silver, that will have you on the edge of your seat and chilled to the bone.

 Cracking Thriller with Eye Candy

| | See all Suush9's reviews (25)

If you are expecting a serious Silence of the Lambs thriller with brain fodder to boot then you will be disappointed - but if you are looking for a popcorn thriller with good quality performances and some nice cinematography then you can't go wrong with this - this is no Oscar winner, but its also not a bad movie -

The chase sequences are pretty cracking stuff (the killer doesn't just walk around in slow motion like a 2 Dimensional Jason/Michael Myers type - This one runs fast with a thirst for bloody killing with a knife!).

Kate Beckinsale is also better in this than she has been in a lot of movies - I would recommend this movie for people looking for a good horror thriller/chase movie.

If you love a good thriller which has a great story and a mysterious plot with some edge of your seat suspense then you should love this film, it has all these elements along with a great cast and fantastic locations! One of the best elements of the movie is the whole snow and ice sets and locations they look fantastic! Its a good gritty who done it thriller and if your into those kind of movies then look no further. The film does have a few short extras that are not bad! The best being the fact the movie is based on a graphic novel and comic book. You would never really guess. Worth a watch.

Patchy thriller with a great atmosphere

While I'm not a big fan of Dominic Sena's frequent flashiness -over tension style, he sometimes knocks it out of the park so I was more than prepared to give this film a go despite a severe critical trouncing in all of the movie review magazines. What did I find? As usual, they;d been a bit too harsh. Kate Beckinsale works hard and convinces as her US Marshal character (especially in one wince-inducing scene). There are enough red herrings to fill a fish counter. And the usual flaw of modern Hollywood thrillers remains - it's too predictable, and the thrills are a little watered down, but you'll have quite a lot of fun getting to the climax, and there are a few small surprises. The location is used well and it's fun to watch. All in all, worth the time watching it. And the storm is terrific.

 Could have been good..

If you have read the description of the film on the back of the cover you'd be expecting a good film set in a fantastic location, the film has the location but sadly not the story or the acting to complement it.
Kate Beckinsale is totally unbelievable in her role as an FBI agent, stomping around in minus 40 degrees without a hair out of place, as are the internal sets of the science station which look more like a 4 star hotel, the one actor that stands out is Tom Skerritt in his brief appearances as the doc.
As for the quality of the Blu-ray, the extras on the disc really show the colours and brightness of Antarctica but the main film quality is average.

'The Thing' is a far better end of the world film..
