From the director of Assault on Precinct 13...

Jacques Mesrine, last of the great French gangsters, was declared Public Enemy Number One during his lifetime. He regularly finished atop the list of newsmakers in opinion polls. His spectacular death, shot full of holes by police at close range in the middle of Paris, put the crowning touch on his legend.

Nearly thirty years after his demise in 1979, the myth of Jacques Mesrine is very much alive. Now, for the first time, this ambitious project brings his life to the big screen.

At once a thriller and a biopic, the project is shot through with action and emotion, yet remains as faithful as possible to factual reality. Far from making a model or superhero out of Mesrine, the film portrays the character in all its complexity, including the darkest aspects.

What will emerge is the story of the man behind the icon.

 Fantastic French Actioner

Parts 1 & 2 are both absolutely superb. Vincent Cassel is (as always) spellbinding as Mesrine (pronounced "may-reen," not "mes-reen," as he later insists to cops and journalists). The 60s & 70s clothes, hairstyles and cars are brilliantly realised, and the fact that it is all a true story is the icing on the cake. There isn't a dull moment, and the car chases reminded me of French Connection & Ronin. Don't let the fact it is subtitled put you off - it's a must see.

Outstanding! If you like French film you will love this, but to be fair this is a truly brilliant film. Both parts superb! Goodfellas, Mean Streets etc. Wonderful modern gangster film with a truely great peformance from Mr Cassel, yet again. Buy it you won't regret it!

 Superb French gangster movie(s)

Vincent Cassel does a truly remarkable job in these films and both are really gripping from start to finish. You may have seen him in The Crimson Rivers with Jean Reno (Leon) previously, if not this is another thriller well worth watching. They are a journey of Mesrine's life, from Algeria, to Paris, to Canada, and back to Paris. With Gerard Depardieu playing Guido, a shady gangster boss who takes Mesrine under his wing. Both films are full of great characters and If you love good gangster movie then get this as you won't be disappointed. The fact that it's a true story only makes it more remarkable.

 EPIC

Film itself:This is a must watch, I watched this back to back thats 4 hours and enjoyed every minute of it.

Packaging: I thought it would be 2 disc as its two films but it wasnt, also the case is not like normal its cardboard quite thin case

Picture: Very nice nothing "jaw dropping" but the sound has a kick to it

Extras on disc: considering this was all on only 1 disc I was surprised it had any extras at all, contains deleted scenes and a few interviews from cast and crew and the trailer also has the annoying trailers of some other french movie at beginning you have to skip through

In The Top 3 Of My All Time Favourites!!!!

First of all I will get my only criticism of this out of the way, the blu-ray itself came in a thin cardboard case instead of a proper case, this is however my only complaint and has nothing to do with the film in any way. Mesrine is one of my favourite films of all time, vincent cassell deserves acclaim for this performance and the subtitles do not put you off at all, if anything it adds to the film and keeps you glued to the tv. This film is a the french version of goodfellas and is packed full of action and has a mafia type storyline, I cannot recommend highly enough, it keeps you gripped all the way through and is split into 2 parts which are both equally as good. The quality of the blu ray is crisp and is a bargain at this price, do not hesitate, buy this now.
