Review

An isolated lunar astronaut begins to lose his grip on reality in this cerebral sci-fi thriller with one heck of a twist.

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is just two weeks away from finishing a lengthy, lonely contract mining Earth's primary source of energy, Helium-3, on the dark side of the moon. Thanks to a glitch in the communications satellite, Sam's only companion on this trip is Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey), the base's unsophisticated computer, and the odd recorded message sent from home. As his contract nears termination, Sam starts suffering from crippling headaches and vivid hallucinations, which lead to a near-fatal accident in a lunar rover. But while he's recovering back at the base, he makes a shocking discovery: a younger version of himself has arrived to fulfil the same contract Sam started all that time ago. Is the second Sam just another hallucination or something altogether more sinister?

Winner of the BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut By A British Director.

For a first time effort, this was as outstanding as the work of many a veteran. If you are philosophically minded with a bent towards humanism, this will leave you hypothesising for days over one key topic, and probably lead to a few good debates along the way.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Baffled......

I was kind of left wanting by this film and I was quite disappointed really, especially after reading all the good reviews on here. Sorry, won't be watching it again. Just collecting dust now! lol!

This reminded me why I love movies so much, I watched this without knowing much about it and by the end I was so impressed I find myself writing my first ever Play.com review in four years of being a member. I'm not a Scifi fanatic and I still adore this film, it has a perfect mix of sophistication and soul.

Whoever you are, make sure you see this film
