Red Cliff (aka: Chi Bi): Special Edition (Blu-ray)

For those who are wondering, I purchased this today and can guarantee that this a two disc edition with the FULL VERSION of the film, parts 1 and 2 spread over both discs respectively.

Beautiful 1080p transfer with 5.1 DTS Master Audio (Chinese, subtitles burnt in English). This film comes highly recommended, coming across to Westerners like Crouching Tiger, LOTR The Two Towers and a bit of the Water Margin for good measure - a suprising return to form (and in some parts surpassing his best work) for John Woo, choose this over the regular one disc edition, as Part 1 runs at 145mins and Part 2 at 141mins!

Special features consist of a making of and interview with John Woo.

Five stars for the movie, video and audio.

But on the whole I can't give this disc more than ONE STAR because distributor Entertainment in Video chose to make one sit through THREE LENGTHY, FORCED TRAILERS before one gets to the main menu on Disc 1. Simply unacceptable in this day and age. I thought we had left the dark times of DVD behind us.

No more Blu-rays from Entertaiment in Video for me.

this is truly a stunning epic by John Woo and his incredibly talented film crew. Great story, acting, characters, production design, use of slow-motion...and the list goes on and on. Movies like this should be allowed to win Best Picture oscar, not just Best Foreign Film. The King's Speech pales into insignificance against this amazingly directed film...and Titanic or American Beauty for that matter. This is perfection. People MUST watch the full-length 4.5 version, not the 2.5 hour one which ruins much of this monumental movie. This goes straight into my top 5 films ever made! John Woo is back! At his height, he is better than anyone in the business.

This film was brilliant, lots of action and a brilliant story line to it. i would recommend it but if you are a person who doesnt like reading subtitles then don't buy it. just as good as crouching tiger and house of flying daggers.

This is one of the best john woo films i have seen since face off. I am glad to see he has gone back to his chinese film making days as those were his best. In blu ray this is definately worth seeing the locations look amazing as do the battles. A Must For Woo Fans.
