Written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson, this hilarious comedy takes place in an alternative reality in which lying does not exist. Everyone, even politicians and advertisers, speaks the truth (and nothing but the truth). But when a loser named Mark (Gervais) discovers lying, he finds that dishonesty has its rewards. In a world where every word is assumed to be the absolute truth, Mark succeeds in lying his way to fame and fortune. But things soon get out of control, as people start to treat his lies as gospel.

He has the entire world hanging on his every word - but can he win the heart of the woman he loves?

The Invention of Lying stars Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Louis C.K., Jeffrey Tambor and Fionnula Flanagan, with Rob Lowe and Tina Fey.

Was looking forward to this as I am a huge Ricky Gervais fan.
But it just did not work, as a Comedy, as a Satire or as simple Entertainment.
The concept should have been exploited to the max, and had the potential to be really funny.
The litter of Star Cameos added nothing to a bland and almost boring 90 mins.
One to maybe catch on the TV, on a very Rainy day.
For a Very Good Ricky Gervais movie, check out Ghost Town instead.

 Forget it..

Just watch the trailer! It covers the whole story and all the best jokes...
The movie is slow at start, then it just gets slower.
The idea is brilliant, but the execution is horrible. You will laugh about 3 times and giggle about 10-15 times. Other than that, you'll just climb the walls waiting for something to happen..

Forget the other reviews you have read this is gervais at his best, a great story, really clever and well carried out with some touching moments, you sometimes know whats coming but in a strange way that makes it all the better. I laughed till I cried, then laughed some more. you wont be disappointed if you are a real gervais fan.

 Really bad

I am a huge Ricky Gervais fan and like his other films (they're not as good as his stand up though). And this was plain bad. I wanted to leave. He uses American words like "Jerk", which is annoying. But for a film that is meant to be funny, it fails on every level. Do not see this movie, what a waste of money.

 Fantastic Gervais Film

I was a bit sceptical about how good this film was going to be, due to some bad reviews, but I was pleasantly suprised about how good it really was! I loved the overall concept and thought it was executed well. Also thought Ricky acting throughout was brilliant! Being a fan of all his work, I'd definitely put it up there with the best. A very enjoyable film! Would highly recommend!
