He fought his first battle on the Scottish Highlands in 1536. He will fight his greatest battle on the streets of New York City in 1986. His name is Connor McLeod. He is immortal.

Connor McLeod (Christopher Lambert - Mortal Kombat, Subway) survives a wound that should kill him in a clan battle in the Scottish Highlands in 1536 and is banished from his village. Years later, McLeod is met by Juan Sanchez Vlla-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery - The Untouchables, The Hunt for Red October), a swordsman who teaches McLeod the truth about himself; he is immortal, one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body. When one immortal takes the head of another, the loser's power is absorbed into the winner. Ramirez teaches McLeod the ways of the sword, until he is killed by his gravest foe, the evil Kurgan (Clancy Brown - The Shawshank Redemption) who lusts for the ultimate power of the immortals, "The Prize"; enough power to rule the earth forever. McLeod must fight his way through the centuries until the time of the Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the ages will come together to fight until only one remains.

In New York City, the final fight is about to begin, and in the end, there can be only one.

got this for under 10 pounds the picture is a lot better than any of the dvd version's the daylight scenes are very impressive with lot's of detail and a very sharp picture!!! the nigh time scene's suffer from alot of grain and soft focus... however a good set of extra's make this a good buy in all and if you are a fan of this or classic 80's films you can't really go wrong...
all in all highly recommended!!!
a quick note the cover states this is a region b disc but it play's with no problem's on my american panasonic blu ray player!!! weird but a bonus none the less!!!

Ok I love this film....... But if you have the DVD don't waste your time o this. They have done so much work trying to clean this up they have ruined the picture. You can now see the guys pushing the Walls down at the Connery fight, the wires dropping people down and lifting Christopher Lambert up at the end. With all this the grain is also even more apparent during certain scenes.

If you have this on DVD stick with that.

It's like watching a totally new film!

Ok, some people are so fanatical about their favourite films and when their favourite films don't look 100% perfect, they, erm, tend to cry a little ;-)
Well, Highlander was made with no computer special effects and with 80's equipment. There's no way that the quality of the film would stand up to todays blockbusters. However, as the film is possibly the best EVER film anyway, this does not matter.
I think what they've done to the Blu Ray is nothing short of AMAZING! (bearing in mind everything I've just said). The colours and detail now visible just make it look like a new version of the film. It adds so much more to an already perfect film.

I bought this a while back and was one of the first Blu Rays that I owned. When I watched it, it was genuinely a jaw dropping moment!

I can't recommend this enough :-)

 Heads Up!

Russell Mulcahy's hugely popular fantasy epic is back in a digitally remastered offering that proves, beyond question, that you can't keep a cult legend down!

Often imitated, and regularly disgraced by an ever growing line of lesser sequels, "Highlander", for the few of you out there who are not in the know, follows a mysterious band of swordsmen, immortal save for a decapitation, who must battle down the ages from Sixteenth Century Scotland to New York in the (then) present day (1985) until only one remains, the victor receiving a power that transcends man's wildest dreams.

Based on an original screenplay by fireman cum film student Gregory Widen, the movie was quite limply released to cinemas in the latter half of 1986, going largely unnoticed until it's spectacular resurrection in the home video market some months later, where it garnered a heady (no pun intended!) combination of enthusiastic public reaction and soaring sell-thru figures!

Years pass, beauty fades, but pure genius endures, and this visceral treat is no exception! From the opening power chord of the unforgettable Queen soundtrack through to the very last frame, the movie hits you with a power that is as confident and exciting today as it ever was. Granted, this isn't ideal entertainment for the Merchant-Ivory demographic, but if it's a straight-to-the-heart shot of pure MTV-inspired adrenaline you're after, then you could do one heck of a lot worse! There's even an ultimately doomed love story in the mix for the lovely ladies and their handkerchiefs!

A bone of contention that will always damage the credibility of any art created in the 1980's is that of it's being a product of the decade that taste forgot, and "Highlander" does, I'm afraid, fall victim to an excessive inclusion of peroxide hairstyles and polished leather, but, in it's defence, the plot's more contemporary scenes are referred to as taking place in that very time, so overlook the flaw, and keep telling yourself: "It's historical!"

Loud, colourful, flashy and fun..."Highlander" is, to quote the late, great Freddie Mercury: "A Kind Of Magic!"
