Great film - deserves a better HD version!

If you already have the 'Immortal' edition on DVD then don't buy this. I accept that the film was made in the eighties - however I have seen much better blu-ray upgrades of older films. The film is grainy and the new '5.1' sound is no better than the original DVD. There're also hardly any additional extras since the last DVD edition.

  Still worth a purchase

I can't actually remember the last time I saw this film...but it was a long long long time ago, probably a few years after it was originally released.
So when trawling through Play.com the other day I found it and had to add it to my collection.
Watched it at the weekend and was a little disappointed to be honest - the transfer to Blu-Ray is OK but nothing special, but given the age of the film it's probably as good as it can be.
I'd also forgotten how appalling the acting is...from pretty much the entire cast! And as for Sean Connery's "Spanish" costume...oh dear...
Having said that, it's still a classic piece of cinema history! And should be in everyone's collection!
Poor special effects by current standards, poor acting, but still a classic.
Forget all the sequels to it though...utter rubbish...as they say in the original "there can be only one"...

  Not bad at all!

Some scenes are quite silly but it is also a very entertaining movie with lots of action from the 80ths. Better then I remebered from a dull VHS copy back in time. The picture is quite good, not top class BD, but maybe the best it can get from this movie. Some times grainy picture.

I remember this film back when i was a kid and was blown away by it. It's a great slice of 80's film making and is such a winner for me. Ok the transfer is a bit grainy and shows up some of the FX's but so what.... i realy don't get why people moan about HD transfers drawing attention to certain FX's in films. Just remember how you felt the 1st time you watched a film.

Forget about the lame sequals and TV series, this is where it all started. They say "It's a kind of magic" and it sure is.

  not a good blu

Very good film as we all know. Classic eighties but transfer really lets it down. Lost Boys which is only a year later is a very good blu copy and only Dolby digital but far superior in all departments.

  Quality

To say that a film cannot be transfered and will have grain is rubbish. I have noticed this a lot with studios rushing films to blu ray. THIS FILM HAS BEEN RUSHED. I love this film but the transfer is poor. You only need to look at a few other Blu Ray films to see that this has been rushed through. AGE of film is irrelevant take a look at PLANET OF THE APES or ROCKY HORROR SHOW quality transfers with age.

  Worst Blu Ray Transfer Ever

I have rated this as a one purely based on the Blu Ray transfer. It is truly shocking. This has to be one of the worst I have ever seen. The grain is so heavy in some scenes its like watching it on an old VHS tape. I would avoid this at all costs. Do not get me wrong, I love this film its the transfer that is garbage.

Ok, some people are so fanatical about their favourite films and when their favourite films don't look 100% perfect, they, erm, tend to cry a little ;-)
Well, Highlander was made with no computer special effects and with 80's equipment. There's no way that the quality of the film would stand up to todays blockbusters. However, as the film is possibly the best EVER film anyway, this does not matter.
I think what they've done to the Blu Ray is nothing short of AMAZING! (bearing in mind everything I've just said). The colours and detail now visible just make it look like a new version of the film. It adds so much more to an already perfect film.

I bought this a while back and was one of the first Blu Rays that I owned. When I watched it, it was genuinely a jaw dropping moment!

I can't recommend this enough :-)

Love the film shame about the transfer

Ok I love this film....... But if you have the DVD don't waste your time o this. They have done so much work trying to clean this up they have ruined the picture. You can now see the guys pushing the Walls down at the Connery fight, the wires dropping people down and lifting Christopher Lambert up at the end. With all this the grain is also even more apparent during certain scenes.

If you have this on DVD stick with that.
