 Hardcore Emotional Film

Difficult to write a review for this movie, it came with a lot of hype for a small budget movie.
Almost like the token small movie that makes it big every year, like Slumdog Millionaire, Little Miss Sunshine, Juno etc
It is by turns Terrifying to watch the Human Drama unfolding but ultimately a movie about Hope and the unbreakable Human Spirit.
The story is based on a novel and not a True story, but is based on things that do happen in real life, which makes the experience all the more shocking.
The Performance by Gabourey Sidibe in her first role is very Natural and you really feel for her plight.
Paula Patton as the teacher is good, but a little Micelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds at times
But the most memorable performance is from Mo Nique, she is a total MONSTER.
There is a real sense of trepidation EVERY TIME she came into the story. She will give me nightmares for a long time.
Just to touch on a few of the previous Reviews this is NOT a Girly film or a Mariah Carey film.
Its just a very Moving and Passionate low budget film that has a Girl in the Lead Role and Mariah Carey in a very good supporting role.

This film has some of the best screen play i've ever scene in a movie.. to the point where nearly three months after seeing it I still revile her mother for the things she did to her (Precious), yes I know it's only a film, but that's how powerful and real the film is. A must see film.. It proves how the acadamy awards is fixed because this should have won on many different levels...

'life is a constant struggle for 'claireece' ( 'precious' )

this is a powerfull drama that tells of a sixteen year old girl who is expecting her second child , both as a result of being raped by her father.
she lives with her mother and suffers constant abuse both verbal and physical.
'claireece 'precious' jones' imagines a different world for herself to blot out the bad things in her life.
she aspires for things to change for her and her child, things start to work out for the better after she is expelled from her school, a teacher point her to a more specialised teaching unit which together with a new social worker point her in a different direction.
perhaps things can change for 'precious' for her, now' two children.
this is an intense film in which 'gabourney sidibie' shines in her first film role( as 'precious' )
with supporting roles from 'mariah carey' and 'lenny kravitz' the film will allmost certainly hold your attenion.

 Powerful & thought provoking

I was fortunate to see this at the BFI London Film Festival, going into the film i'd heard a great deal about it & the awards heaped upon it. I was somewhat sceptical, however what i saw was a highly charged and emotional film with strong performances throughout. It's little wonder that it is now being considered as an Oscar contender. It's hard to find fault with it, & is to be commended for the way in which it doesn't shy away from the seriousness of the subject matter and the issues 'Precious' has had to deal with. Easily one of the most powerful & emotional films i have ever seen.
