He was trained to follow orders. He became a hero by defying them.

In director Antoine Fuqua's action-adventure film, Bruce Willis stars as Lt. A.K. Waters, the loyal veteran officer of a Navy S.E.A.L unit. When he's sent into the heart of Africa, the usually hard-bitten Waters finds himself deeply conflicted at having to choose between following orders and the dictates of his own conscience. Lt. Waters travels to war-torn Nigeria to rescue Dr. Lena Kendricks (Monica Bellucci), a U.S. citizen who runs a mission in the countryside. But when Lt. Waters arrives, Dr. Kendricks refuses to abandon the refugees under her care...

She implores Waters to escort them on a dangerous trek through the dense jungle to the nearby border of Cameroon. During the journey, the S.E.A.L.s find themselves the unwitting guardians of a man sought by the rebel militia. This further endangers their already hazardous mission. But all the while it strengthens Waters' resolve to protect Lena -- for whom he has unexpectedly developed feelings -- and the refugees, and to deliver them safely across the border.

The story opens with a rescue mission by a group of American Navy Seals detailed to bring back a Doctor, a Priest and a couple of Nuns in a Catholic Mission inside Nigeria, about twelve kilometres inside the neutral Cameroon Border. Nigeria is embroiled in a full-blown uprising after rebel soldiers are reported to have assassinated the Presidential family and established a dictatorship under the rebel general Yakubu. Fearing ethnic cleansing, the majority of the Ibo tribe have abandoned their homes, and are fleeing the country or searching for sanctuary wherever they may find it.

The hostilities have reached genocide proportions and Dr. Lena Hendricks and the Nuns have gathered orphaned children and homeless families under the protection of the church, but the brutal rebel troops do not respect the sanctuary of the church. Throughout the region the rebels carry out ethnic cleaning and very few will escape the genocide, which is bound to follow. Captain Waters (Bruce Willis) and his team of Navy Seals are now faced to extradite the Doctor, Nuns and Priest with precious time running out before the rebel troops will arrive. Complicating the issue even further the Seals do not have the transportation facilities to "air lift" all the refugees to safety, just the four mission workers only.

The story is excellent and gripping, the cast is terrific and the pace of the film keeps going with many twists and turns before the final credits roll. The Blu-Ray transfer is very good indeed. I am not saying that there are no flaws within the script as I'm sure some people may feel in places it's cheesy or wooden. I have watched this film several times now, a mark of a credible film, highlighting that if the storyline has any substance and credibility, then multiple viewings will never be a problem.

 Great movie

This is a totally different movie than the Die hard series from Bruce Willis. This movies rocks, it's a very good warmovie. It's about a civil war in an African country. Bruce and his team are send in to fetch a couple of nons and an American doctor. They refuse to come if they can't bring along some refugees. And that's ther beginning of the story. This movie also shows how sick war can be.
Great movie, very good picture and sound quality, both better than on regular DVD.

 Rubbish

This a truly terrible film. Bruce Willis does another boring performance as a us soldier. The character starts of with little compassion towards the civilians involved and later does a complete 360 turn personality change as he does everything to save their lives. This is also true of his affection towards the lead woman in the film (a true stereotype of a humanitarian giving her life to save some poor people). Yak-yak. Shame I have to give 1 star.

 Absolute rubbish!

I bought this on the strength of other reviews and have never felt so robbed in my life. The storyline is daft, why are these soldiers going to save just the one American citizen, the morals are questionable, what right does America have to bomb sovereign nations, and it overall it could only appeal to someone under 14.

Strangely, this is the third review I have made of this film, the first two never getting published.

One of the best all time Greats
