When there's no more room in hell the dead will walk the earth!

As a blend of horror, action, tension, and humour, Dawn of the Dead stands in a class of its own as the only true zombie epic of all time.

A National Emergency grips the US as the zombie population grows at an alarming rate. Two S.W.A.T. officers, a helicopter pilot and his girlfriend escape the city and take refuge in an abandoned shopping mall after securing it following a series of flesh-shredding confrontations with the undead. Their survival is threatened when a band of looters leave a door open allowing the zombies access to the mall once more and a final stand-off for survival must play out.

With near unbearable tension throughout, George A Romero's Dawn of the Dead is a work of zombie film-making genius.

The best Dawn Of The Dead release ever

OK for 16 . 99 you get a hell of a lot for your money here . 3 versions of the movie , double sided poster, 4 sleeve options , hours and hours of extras ,and a mini booklet . This is even better than the fantastic region 1 Anchor Bay release from a few years ago . Only the Theatrical version is in HD ,the Argento cut and Extended Version ( it`s not the Directors cut as Romero has stated his self that the Theatrical version is his preferable version ) are in standard def . But don`t let that put you off , think about it you get 1 Blu Ray Disc and 2 DVD`s for this price and it`s one of the all time great horror movies . This was a time when they made originals and not remakes , reboots , rethinks , or anything else that starts with re . Roll on Day Of The Dead

 good but a bit disapointing

I am sorry I didn't buy this from play, it is avaliable in the shops I bought it today, and I watched the theatrical cut, it was amazing as the film was initially mde in 1978, the film starts out reasonably dark but when the chopper lands at the airport and there are some daylight action scenes you really see a massive improvement even from the DVD upscaled version, at this stage I was really happy with it.

Any true Dawn of the Dead fans wil be aware there was a very nice uiltimate edition box (standard DVD) with all 3 versions of the film and special features, this blu ray release also has all 3 versions of the film, but what I do find disapointing is they only mastered one version of the film in high defintiion, as the directors cut (also known as the extended version) is my favourite version of the film, so to me it is disapointing that only the theatricakl cut was mastered in high definition on this release.
But there is one immprovement from the previoously released version of the directors cut version of the film for the first time, to my knowledge anyway, the directors cut version of the film is presented in stereo, rather than it's orignal mono format, which is an improvement, but sadly not in high definition, which spoils this release for me.

 Amazing!

I bought this from the US - and if the UK disk is the same then the picture quality is amazing. For a film thats 30+ years old the restoration job done on it is second to none. Well worth a look!

Still the zombie movie to rule them all

I first saw DOTD when it came out on video in the early 80's, and last night saw the extended cut running at 2h35. Comparing that with the versions on offer in this BluRay / DVD edition, I would say you are not missing much and I can see why the theatrical cut is the preferred version. It's pacier, there are less continuity gaffs, and aside from missing extended scenes of very disturbing gore, all the necessary ingredients are there. That said, its still a shame it wasn't included on the BluRay. Without doubt if you have never seen the Romero DOTD original and have only seen the diabolical remake, you are in for a treat. It has a lot to say about consumerism and commercialism, and does so with flare and ingenuity. The soundtrack is ominous and in places contrasts with update ditties that occasionally prove to be annoying and contrived but overall at 32 years old this remains the unbeaten definitive zombie movie and I think will always remain the most important and effective of its genre.

The best you could ever want

As one of my favourite films of all time i was hopefull that the previous reviews were accurate regarding the transfer.I have to say this blu ray blew me away. Yes it is only the theatrical version in HD but it is so well done i have no complaints, had they done all 3 versions in HD the price would have had to reflect that and as such would have been a very expensive set. If you had it on vhs then dvd like myself you will not be dissapointed by this version. Simply stunning.
