  No lightning strike here

There is nothing inherently wrong with this Harry Potter fill-in where high school kid Lerman discovers that he is a demi-god and son of Poseidon. The trouble is that this is just so ordinary and rather uninspired, which is not what you should be looking for in a fantasy epic. So while it is filled to overflowing with frantic plotting, the characters barely make an impact, the all-star cast have nothing to do (though Thurman makes for an interesting Medusa) and after a while the surfeit of special effects are not that special.

  Good but not great

The film itself is fine the picture quality is great esp some of the special fx and on a cinema system sounds amazing. However the acting from some seems stiff and the plot seems laboured in parts and rushed in others and if you have read the book you will be even more let down by the film.

  Fantastic Fantasy

Great family Fantasy from the popular books. Percy Jackson is an ordinary kid who later finds out he is a Demi-God half human and half god. He is the son of zeus god of olympus. With very entertaining action and fantastic visual effects it is a must have for any family looking forward to the next installmant.

Great greek mythology film which is set in the 21st century!

I'm a big fan of greek mythology and I really enjoyed this film and the new Clash Of The Titans. There are some great actors in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief such as "Pierce Brosnan" playing a Centaur, "Sean Bean" as Zeus and "Uma Thurman" makes a dead sexy Medusa. The Hydra and Minotaur look fantastic as do all the special effects look very good indeed. Percy learns he is the son of Poseidon and at the same time he is accused of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt. He must find the lightning bolt with his new friends or there will be a war between the Gods which will destroy our world. The journey they go on is very exciting and the scenery is beautiful at times. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a great fantasy film which I enjoyed very much indeed especially as I love greek mythology too.

Sensational Family Fantasy that will entertain all

Chris Columbus Director of such films as (Home Alone,Mrs Doubtfire,Rent,Harry Potter) Directs this fantasy extravaganza of state of the art special effects and Greek mythology to boot in an enchanting fantasy adventure that is sure to please all the family..Percy Jackson is a teenager trying to find his roots only to eventually find through a sequence of bizaar events that he is the son of Poseidon the Greek God of the Sea who has been accused by Zeus that Percy is suspected of stealing his lightning bolt and it must be returned or else war would take place...A cameo role by Pierce Brosnan and Zeus played by Liam Neeson are to name but a few top actors with Uma Thurman as Medussa the Gorgon. If you like Chris Columbus style of directing from his previous films then you are certain to be enthralled by Percy Jackson and his adventures to try and retrieve his good name.....A visual treat not to be missed....Very Highly Recommended Family Entertainment

  'good family friendly entertainment'

'zeus' blames 'posiedon's' earthly son 'percy jackson' for the theft of his all-powefull 'lightning bolt'
'percy' who up to this point had no idea who his father was now has to prove his innocence.
'percy's' mother has been taken prisoner by 'hades' who wants to trade for the 'bolt'
'percy' along with a couple of friends one of which comes from the training camp he's introduced to to make him ready for such a quest, now sets out to save his mother and prove he'd not stolen the 'bolt'
the gods will, in ten-days start a war between them if the bolt is not returned.
there will be many tests along the way for 'percy' and his friends, with many trying to prevent them gathering the 'pearls' which will help them escape from 'hades'
a pretty impressive cast-list for this family movie, which includes some brilliant 'cgi' along with 'heroic' action.
good 'blu-ray' purchase along with 'dvd and digital' copies ( one day all blu-ray will offer the same deal....hopefully )

  Decent family fodder.

This films plays around with the Clash of the Titans story and comes up with an entertaining Harry Potter/Greek mythology family friendly hybrid adventure. Not sure Pierce Brosnan entirelly pulls off, half man, half horse. Steve Coogan's part is mericfully short. kevin Mckidd and Sean Bean add gravitas as greek gods. Hotdog & nachos fun.

With a big cast full of stars Percy J looked like the new "Harry Potter" and it was good enough, not better than HP but it gave a good try. This action adventure film was enjoyable at most at times it dragged and felt stupid but for the most part it was well worth the time. SFX were good and if you have time on your hands its one to consider.
