Review

Based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore, Watchmen is a complex, multi-layered, mystery adventure which is directed by 300's Zack Snyder and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Carla Gugino, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode and Patrick Wilson.

Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the 'Doomsday Clock' - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight.

When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...But who is watching the Watchmen?

The Director's cut of the feature is approximately 25 minutes longer, incorporating more elements from the graphic novel. This eagerly anticipated version offers more violence and reworked scenes with additional dialogue to give greater depth to this visual masterpiece. Also included are new commentary contributions from Director Zach Snyder and Graphic Novel illustrator Dave Gibbons.

Top 10 DVD Reviewer

This has got to be one of the best comic book movies ever made, watchmen easily stands up to anything before it, it has an amazing and deep and interesting storyline unlike allot of comic films, great effects, interesting characters with good back stories. it was rather a brave thing to do giving this an 18 certification and having it run at just over two and a half hours, but it was needed and well worth all the effort, plus with all the cool features you get on this disc its a must own film and already a classic, BUT if you want the real version of watchmen you need to see the ULTIMATE CUT which runs an hour longer! This is only available in the u.s but if you order it you will find it runs no problem as it is region free!!

Loved this film,it's super anti heros for adults, this directors cut is very long, but at least you can have a cup of tea & come back later. It looks wonderful very dark & moody.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Better than people currently think.

This is one of those films that people will only respect in time, it happened to blade runner, 2001, and many other great films. The watchmen film is everything it should be, and its amazing Snyder got it released in such good shape, compared to what it was originally going to be like.

Watchmen is intelligent, and often eye opening about many issues. Directors cut is a bit late over here, but put it this way, the film is 3 hours long, and I can watch it over and over. The Dr Manhattan scenes with music from Phillip Glass are among the best scenes I have seen all year. You might want to read up a bit about watchmen before watching though, so you don't expect something it isn't.
