Tarantino takes so much care and pride over his films that it was inevitably going to be a masterpiece. From the music accompanying the opening credits right down to the gritty tarantino-esque ending, everything in this film works. Christoph Waltz in his first english speaking film is outstanding as the jew hunting nazi Col, Hans Landa, while Hugo Sticklitz and Bradd Pitt's own Aldo Ray leave you with no choice to love them every time they grace the screen.
Obviously the story is not historically accurate, which is the point. It is however, very interesting to consider how the war would have ended had these events actually occurred.
This film is not for everyone, as unfortunately even Quentin Tarantino can't get EVERYONE to enjoy his style, but quite simply if you liked pulp fiction then this movie is truly unmissable.
Great characters, great music, a nicely original storyline and littered with Tarantino trademarks, and this is the film that you need to see this year.
So enjoy it in high definition and with all the extras you could want.
Pre-order now.
Yes it's over indulgent. Yes it's overblown...and yes it's factually preposterous but my oh my it's a blast from start to finish. A great movie with Tarantino's trademark stamped all over it. Highly recommended.
Quentin Films are always a little hit or miss...
Reservoir Dogs - Miss,
Pulp Fiction - Hit,
Jackie Brown - Miss,
Kill Bill Pt 1 - Hit,
Kill Bill Pt 2 - Miss,
Death Proof - Hit (kind of)
Inglourious Basterds....... Miss!!
I, like most people, probably see a film being directed by Quentin and I have to go see it. Reason being, when he gets it right, it's amazing.... However, when he gets it wrong, it's so boring and drawn out.
Don't get me wrong, this film was good in parts. The first and last chapters are brilliant, but the chapters inbetween are just too dull for words.
Obviously there are plenty of people who love it... it's just that I unfortunately did not.
With the exception of Fincher the Coen brothers and Scott (Ridley that is). Since Kubrick there has been no-one else producing unique movies that are different from the run of the mill formulae drivel that we are subjected to. This movie really stands out from the crowd and i would rank it up there with classic excellence such as Apocalypse Now and 2001. Well done Quentin. You have redeemed yourself after Kill Bill and Death Proof. I just hope he keeps producing films like this, because Cinema needs Tarantino's and not just the same old same old.
There are two ways to view this; as a standalone film, or as Tarantinos latest offering. As a Tarantino film it is a return to form to his triple cinemathon of Reservoir, Pulp and Jackie; his fatuous and self - indulgent titles like Kill Bill and Death Race veering him into B Flick territory. Yet with IB, there is Tarantinos signature filmmaking in full effect; observant cinematography, innocent dialogue followed by gratuitous yet camp ultraviolence. Every performer performs at best, with flawless editing to allow them to shine.
And as a standalone film? Way above anything we could possibly see this year. Glourious.
