From Cormac McCarthy, the writer of the Oscar-winning No Country For Old Men and the director of The Proposition comes the film adaption of one of the most celebrated and beloved books of the 21st Century, The Road.

It is a gripping post-apocalyptic thriller, a heart-rending love story between father and son and a lesson to us all on how humanity can overcome the most horrific challenges to our survival. BAFTA nominated for its cinematography, The Road is a stunning, life-enhancing and utterly rewarding experience that deserves to be seen.

 A Must See

This film is a fantastic example of how to adapt for the screen. An amazing novel, The Road could not be translated directly to film without parts of it being too uncomfortable to watch. This does the job brilliantly, faithful to key moments (especially dialogue) and reworking others to fit the form. This should have been Oscar nominated - this is actually proof that the whole Oscar sham is meaningless - and Viggo Mortenson should have challenged Jeff Bridges if not taken it himself. It was Jeff's year, by not nominating Viggo it was a hell of a lot easier to give it to him.

That said the film is truely horrifying and uplifting in turns, avoiding mawkishness. The horror may still not be to everyone's tatstes. A must see, if not a must buy - my copy is on order.

The Road is a hard movie to watch. It takes its time to get going and is a pretty Grim Tale.
Saying that though I found it to be Engaging, Thoughtful and Sad.
Its about trying to survive in Extreme Circumstances and protect and live for those we love, all with a bit of Dignity.
Its not a great film, not something I would rush to watch again, but I am glad I did watch it.
The acting was Splendid across the board, Viggo Mortensen gives one of his best performances so far, and the Kid was very good.
The Legend that is Robert Duvall, was just Amazing as usual and Charlie Therzon leaves a mark in a small role.

On a slightly different not this movie seems to be getting some strange reviews.
The people who are not liking the film seem to be expecting some sort of Action movie.
This is not a Post Apocalyptic Action move like I Am Legend. This is not Friday Night Laughs and Entertainment.
Sometimes you need to know what type of film you are about to watch, and The Road is one of them.

This is more of a rent than a buy film, the story centres around viggo mortensens character and his son travelling the waste lands of a post apocalyptic world, its a bit more of a human emotion and father son relationship movie with little action going on, its about surviving without becoming like the enemy! it has its morals there in the story but ultimately in the end it dosnt deliver any satisfaction and wont deserve a repeat viewing!!

 Hard Going..

I watched this film and i must say it was a Great film, verry harrowing and not your normal glamed up american trash. The bleak scenes and the words spoken really made me feel i was i was there too feeling there sorrow. Viggo and the young boy where a good match for the film and both acted there hearts out, the look of viggo as a trampish dude was spot on and i read in empire he slept in a old trailer and didnt wash very much as to get into character. As the other reviewer pointed out COME AND SEE great film as well and 3 hours of subs that was a hard watch as well very harrowing scenes but i suppose i can see where hes coming from comparing the two films.
