Matt Damon stars as Mark Whitacre, a real-life PhD student who became a whistleblower on an agricultural business when their practices become unlawful. Valued as a rising star at the company, Whitacre secretly set about compiling hours of video footage of malpractice over several years which revealed one of the biggest price-fixing scandals in history.

After the scandal was uncovered, Whitacre suffered a mental breakdown, spiralling into a life of bizarre behaviour and mania from the pressures of his undercover work. The Informant recounts his story with a darkly comic sensibility.

Well made movie with old fashioned feel to it.
Story is a bit up and down, but overall enjoyable.
Main highlights are Matt Damons wonderfully Deluded Performance and the Super Voice Over he delivers with it.
Probably wont be to everyones taste.

Does Not Work As A Comedy.

The Informant (2009) is a comedy drama starring Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Melanie Lynskey and Joel McHale.

Based on a true story this is a quirky offbeat movie from director Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich). Matt Damon is very good in the leading role while TV star Scott Bakula surprises with a terrific supporting role.

The main problem with this movie is that its just not funny. Soderbergh does his best to create a quirky comedy but there are very few laughs to had. Its an interesting story but Soderbergh should have just played it straight as a drama.

The quirky comedy is awkward and spoils the more dramatic story. Still the performance from Damon is worth watching and there's a good commentary from Soderbergh to be enjoyed on the extras.
