Planet 51 (Blu-ray)

A very engaging film which is good eye candy and works on two levels. Firstly it's a film that will keep the kids watching although the first 10 mins may be a bit puzzling for some as the scene is set. Secondly it's good for the older ones (us). If you pay attention, there are many vignettes/parodies of classic films & actors that are well moulded into the script which you may miss if not looking out for them.. A few re runs will find different things every time.
Well worth a watch.

Spain's first CGI cartoon has a nice premise - the inhabitants of the titular planet are rocked by the arrival of a human astronaut - and some neat touches (the H.R. Giger alien dog is a particularly clever touch) but suffers from the fact that it simply isn't funny. Instead it's noisy, frenetic and tiresome and more than a little obsessed with bodily functions.

I was led to believe this was going to be bad, but in fact I was pleasently supprised. The story was good, but what made it for me was the picture quality, one of the best animated films so far.

Nothing amazing but a break from the norm, ok animation and a watchable story. It's ok.
