Teenager Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) is surviving on his own, virtually homeless, when he is spotted on the street by Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock). Learning that the young man is one of her daughter's classmates, Leigh Anne insists that Michael-wearing shorts and a t-shirt in the dead of winter-come out of the cold. Without a moment's hesitation, she invites him to stay at the Tuohy home for the night. What starts out as a gesture of kindness turns into something more as Michael becomes part of the Tuohy family despite the differences in their backgrounds. Living in his new environment, the teen faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome. And as the family helps Michael fulfill his potential, both on and off the football field, Michael's presence in the Tuohys' lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress (Sandra Bullock).

All the people I know that have seen this movie, have all enjoyed it immensely.
And whats not to enjoy, Emotional True Story, excellent performances all round, and a message of real Hope
The story is very straight forward about a family helping someone, but the beauty of it is the honesty that it is shown with.
The acting is superb all round, but it is very much Sandra Bullock's Oscar winning performance that carries the movie through.
I think it's also worth mentioning that this is not a Girly film, but a film anyone can watch, enjoy and also benefit from a little.
Overall then A very Real, very Emotional Movie that makes you want to do good. A real treat

 Bullock's best

This is a great family film with Sandra Bullock at her very best as a gutsy but understanding and empathetic American mom who takes pity on her daughters black class mate played by Quentin Aaron. Make sure you have plenty of tissues on hand as parts of the film are very emotionally portrayed. Sandra Bullock was well deserving of the Oscar she received and is by far, in my opinion, her best film to date. Great direction and the Blu Ray version is very high on picture quality which is accompanied by a great audio presence that accompany the football game scenes.

well,well...'sandra bullock' wins, some would say an overdue 'oscar' for her performance in this 'really good movie'
there is no question that she's a genuine talent, and yet. not all her 'role' choices have done her justice.
in recent times i watched and enjoyed 'the proposal' ( couldn't stop laughing ) then on the strength of her role in that film i bought and watched 'all about steve' and was hugely dissapointed, it was a real 'turkey'
in this film 'leigh' ( sandra bullock ) takes pity on 'micheal' ( Quinton aaron ) when she see's him wandering the street with nowhere to go and without asking her family invites him into her home for the night.
'micheal' had recently been given a place in a local school after a 'coach' at the school had seen him sink several balls into the basketball net, the 'coach' saw potential.
'leigh' and her family quickly take 'micheal' into their hearts ignoring the racial jibes.
they set out not only to be-friend 'micheal'' they set out to help him become all that he can be, both with his education and obvious flare for sport.
this is far and away one of the best movies i've seen in recent times, should 'sandra bullock' have one 'best actress' ? ....i haven't seen all the condenders for that honour yet, but, i'll say this, the film itself was worthy of nomination in my view.
it's a must see, just watched it myself on 'blu-ray' ( the disc is multi-region ) .....enjoy

I am a middle aged man who like his action flicks and sci-fi and a good rom-com
BUT THIS IS SPECIAL in every sense, Sandra Bullock is truely at her best and I first saw this before UK release and predicted an oscar back then... and it did.
The story can seem slow in places but remember that it is based on a true story and there are a few points that the film is making that need time to tell, and it does with humour, emotion and beautiful characters.
A film that can be seen time and time again

BUY BUY BUY - anything under a tenner for the triple play is worth it

I found this film truly engrossing.

The American football scenes in this movie take a back seat to the inspirational and often moving story. Which is great, because being a UK resident I have no idea how American football is actually played. Sandra Bullock does a great job of conveying the emotion of scenes, and the cast as a whole is good.

This film starts at rock bottom and shows you Michael's life on the way up, making it a really uplifting movie. Unlike "The Pursuit of Hapyness", which takes you on a misery tour while tagging a happy ending on at the last possible moment.

Although a couple of the comedy moments felt a bit out of place, I still have to give this film five stars. A great all round film.
