  Finest indeed

A trip to the mean streets of NYC analysing the lives of three different cops, all at the end of their tether. Cheadle is tiring of living life undercover, Hawke is drowning in the need to move to an unaffordable new house because of his expanding family, and weary retiree Gere is just fed up with the whole thing. While bleak and downbeat, Fuqua's film is also incisive, beautifully crafted and features an excellent script from first-timer Martin. Sidney Lumet would have been proud.

If you want a dark, gritty hard hitting cop movie with plenty of action and violence then look no further, this is a fantastic film from the director of training day, a great story thats well paced out with plenty of everything you expect, the movie has a gritty real edge to it being filmed on location in Brooklyn with a great supporting cast too, this is a quality filmmaking and if your into this genre then be sure not to miss it.

This acting is very good indeed, many of these actors arent top brass but they are here! Actually thought Snipes was good in his role, this story is about the lives of different chraraters within the NYPD and outside the walls in the streets of it!! The everyday pressure of police life is shown and the desparate side of their lives to shows, the storyline to me is well crafted and acted the action scenes are good when they happen just at the right time in the film!! Its not a all out shoot-up its a thought-provoking film. The blu-ray version is clear and crisp and the sound is excellent as it should be for blu-ray. The film is well worth a watch but be patient with it and you wont be disappointed.

Brooklyns finest... Finest indeed.

This is a great film, set around the lives of 4 people in the world of Brooklyns police force. With some front line policing, down to undercover, through to the old timers wanting to retire. It shows you the harshness of the world we somewhat live in today.

The film grips you in a manner, and makes you feel for the characters in it. You really do feel sorry for them and the daily struggles they go through.

For me it was a very good film, on concluded on for me what was a very low point. But such a good ending.

the cast was excellently selected and each played their roles superbly. Dont be mistaken. This isnt a full on hardcore action film. This is a down to earth cop drama. Dont be fooled. You are guaranteed to enjoy this.

Recommend 4/5!!!

  Clichéd & long

| | See all Dingers's reviews (56)

Fuqua drops the ball with this bloated character study of the Brooklyn police force. The problem is that his characters aren't particularly likeable & cliched. The undercover cop who's been under so long, right & wrong are blurred. Morally ambiguous cop on the edge, with hairtrigger temper who'll do just about anything to earn extra bucks, & the embittered burn out who's coming to the end of an unremarkable career. The strands take too long to get where they're going and by that time you've lost interest.

Masterlee's review is spot on...my jaw hit the floor when I read the other 2 reviews currently on here.

BORING? That is so wide of the mark it is untrue. The way all the characters stories are portrayed (inc. Richard Gere's) and how they all unwind / intertwine at the end of Brooklyn's Finest, is a nothing short of a masterpiece of film making.

Sense and Sensibility and every other costume drama that's ever existed...try those for boring thank you very much!!

Yes it's long at 2 1/2 hours but as with other quality films that last a long time (Gladiator, Lord of the Rings trilogy etc.) the movie fairly flies by as it draws you in right from the start and keeps you gripped throughout.

Ethan Hawke's character is particularly well scripted as it nigh on makes you have a moral argument with yourself as to whether he is a good or bad person (won't spoil it by going into details, you'll see what I mean when you watch the film...and watch it you must!)

Easily one of the best movies of 2010 so far, I cannot recommend it highly enough!
