Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) are the meanest, coolest and most successful cops in New York City, and then there's The Other Guys. Losers, Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg), decide they want the limelight in this sidesplitting comedy.

Misfit NYPD detectives Gamble and Hoitz (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) are sentenced to life behind the desk. They hate each other and the monotony of their meaningless jobs, as they're forced to live in the shadow of the two biggest and most badass cops on the force (Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson). But when those guys go down for the count, opportunity knocks for Gamble and Hoitz. Stumbling onto what could be one of the biggest crimes in years, can The Other Guys step up their game to solve the case without killing each other and destroying NYC in the process? From the director of Step Brothers and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

must admit if someone had told me that i'd find 'will ferrell' and 'mark wahlberg' teaming up in a tongue-in-cheek movie 'funny' i'd have found the idea---funny, but i'd have been wrong cause this film will have you spliting yer' sides with it's deap pan humour.
the story starts with 'danson' and 'highhsmith' ( dwayne 'the rock' johnson' and 'samuel l jackson' ) grabbing all the glory as 'NYPD'S' super cops, when they become victims of their own invincability, the precinct's cop-partners compete to be seen as their replacement 'heroes'
among the suitors 'danson' and 'hoitz' ( will ferrell' and 'mark wahlberg' ) probably the least likely to do so, however the two latch onto a 'big-time' crime operation, despite being warned off by their superiors they can't let it go......but do they realize what they are getting themselves into ?
give this a whirl i'm betting you'll 'love it' ................enjoy

 It's Funny

Will Ferrell teams up again with his fave director Adam Mc Kay, Director of previous Ferrell movies
Talladega Nights, Stepbrothers and the All time Classic Anchorman to send up the Police Action Movie genre.
And once again they deliver the laughs and silliness that we all expect.
Its obviously not on par with the legendary Anchorman, I mean what is??? But slots in nicely to their cannon of collaborations.
The Story is silly as it should be. The over the top action sequences were brilliantly executed.
Will Ferrell does what he does, but is a bit more restrained this time. Mark Whalberg is very good as Ferrells easily irritable Side Kick.
Dwayne Johnstone and Sam Jackson are excellent in the few scenes they appear in.
Michael Keaton was brilliant in a small role, was really happy to see him in a big movie after ages.
He really should be getting more work in Bigger & Better Movies.
Anyways another HIT movie from Ferrell and Mc Kay. Long may their partnership continue

 Quite Disappointing.

The Other Guys (2010) is an action comedy starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson.

Unfortunately I was disappointed by this movie. It tries really hard but is not exciting enough to be an action movie and not funny enough to work as a comedy.

Ferrell tries hard but fails because his character is pretty unlikeable. Wahlberg gives it go and does ok considering he's not best known for his comedic abilities.

The rest of the cast are largely wasted in forgettable roles although the possible exception is Michael Keaton who manages to earn a few chuckles.

Director Adam McKay had better luck with far superior Anchorman and Step Brothers. There are a couple of visual flourishes from McKay which really work but overall he struggles to deliver on the action front.

I found The Other Guys to be pretty average and disappointing but I was comparing it to the other McKay/Ferrell collaborations and thats maybe unfair.

Was this film supposed to be funny?

How on earth did this film avoid a critical mauling? I am so disappointed that it didn't receive a mention in Mark Kermode's "Worst of 2010" round-up.
Unfunny from start to finish. Avoid like the plague.

 very funny
