  Nothing despicable here

Universal's first foray into CGI animation is a thorough delight with Carell voicing the arch-villain Gru who finds that the only way to out-villain his young usurper is to draft in three adorable orphans. Full of inventive gags, some rousing action setpieces and Pixar-level attention to detail, this is as cheeky and subversive as the delightful minions that help Gru in his nefarious schemes.

One of the best animated movies of recent years.

I love animated movies. Not from a specific studio, since I don't judge them by that, but all of them. This one here? Has it all.

Great animation. Although not done in any major US studio, which helped a lot apparently, the film features very nice and stylized animation. The characters all have very good facial expressions and you'll love the minions.

Great voice acting. The voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segal, and Russell Brand are excellent throughout the movie. Although Pierre Coffin is the one who steals all the glory as the voice of the minions.

Great cast of characters. From the nasty super villain Gru, who looks like Dr Evil from Austin Powers and Dr. Nefario, to Vector and Gru's mother (played by Julie Andrews). There are so many characters in this movie, you will certainly find someone to like.

But, most of all, this movie has the minions. These little yellow guys are the funniest thing to hit animated movies in recent years.

There is always something funny going on in this movie and most characters seem to have equal screen time which helps the movie to avoid being boring.

As for a faceoff with Megamind? Please. In comparison Megamind is a boring, cliche, superheroes movie. Another failed attempt to propel Will Ferrell to stardom and a mish mash of things weve seen in the studios other movies. It took me well over 30 mins to crack a smile in that movie.

If you want a funny movie and not some drama (like Megamind) for your kids then buy this movie. You will not regret it.

Like Vector says. Oh Yeah.

  great for adults and kids

This film is superb. The animation is fantastic, the voice overs and storyline are great too. The minions make this film and you should watch the 3 short movies whick form part of the special features. I watched with my son and he insists on watching this over and over again and it doesn't lose its charm. A Great film

It's been a while since major Hollywood studio's have had a face-off, we had Antz vs A Bugs Life, Deep Impact vs Armageddon, Dante's Peak vs Volcano and now we get Despicable me vs Megamind.
Despicable me wone at the box-office but both are equally as good in my humble opinion.
Although Despicable Me is incapable of matching the far tougher foe of Pixar, it still is one of the best CGI movies in years.
The voice tallents of Steve carell, Jason Segal, Russell Brand and danny McBride are exceelent, The story of nasty supervillain Gru (Steve Carell) who dasterly plotting enlists the help of three orphans, whom at the start detest's on sight, but naturally grows to love them. The script is well written and smart enough to never become cloying.
Where the film stands from the rest of the CGI pack is the animation and design as much of the animation was done in France, and there's a fantastic gallic feel to most of the characters with there features caricatured in a way a US artist wouldn't dare to. Even better, despitite being a clear attempt to create a studio mascot is the tic-tac-like minions who make up Gru's private army that are as funny as they are cute. The film is very funny and will be loved buy kids and adults alike all this contributes to Despicable me being a irresistably likeable whole.
See if you like.
The Incredables.
Megamind.
Monsters vs Aliens.
Shrek 1-4
UP.

This is the surprise hit of the summer. I was not expecting much, and with the so-so beginning, I was thinking that this was going to be painful...but right from the time when Gru makes an entrance, I did not stop laughing. A villain has his heart melted by three little girls, and is made to do anything they ask of him.

The storyline is superb, Gru's voice is spot-on, and the minions are nothing but hilarious...

Unmissable, and one of the top two movies of the year....Train your Dragon being the other..

  amazing family movie
