Prepare to immerse yourself in an alien world as if you were standing there yourself.

Professor Brian Cox takes another giant leap for humankind as images of distant alien worlds are brought into breathtaking focus. Giant ice fountains rising over 100km high; an ocean hidden beneath a frozen crust of ice; storms three times the size of Earth coloured blood red by a vortex of dust and gases; immense volcanoes that would put Mount Everest in the shade - this amazing DVD reveals the true and awesome beauty of our solar system. It's an epic journey of discovery, where bizarre worlds become real places we can see, feel and visit.

Travelling from the Sun to the far-out reaches of Neptune, Wonders of the Solar System has at its heart the latest scientific knowledge beamed back from the fleet of probes, rovers and telescopes currently in space. Using the very latest images sent direct from space, and spectacular CGI, the series presents a spellbinding voyage around the natural wonders of the solar system, capturing explosive phenomena in minute detail.

Alongside these startlingly authentic images, some of the most spectacular, extreme locations on Earth help to reveal wonders never thought possible. Wonders of The World explores how these previously unseen phenomena have dramatically expanded our horizons, revealing more about the planets, their moons and how they came to be the way they are.

The series also looks at the big picture - how the forces of nature carved out beauty and order from the chaos of space; how our home planet doesn't sit in magnificent isolation but is intimately connected with the rest of the Solar System; and how these connections have created the haven we call Earth.

 Inspiring, fascinating, educating

Having enjoyed BBC's Planet Earth and Life I was looking forward to this series and it does not disappoint.

The 'rock star' professor as he is known, Brian Cox (he was in a band D:Ream) takes us on a truly wonderful journey through our solar system using a combination of CGI, actual video footage and photos from space missions, and travelling the earth to locations that are most similar to those of other planets and moons to help explain the facts.

I sat through each episode in awe about how much is out there in our solar system and it just blew my mind some of the things we have discovered with space probes and satellites in the outer reaches of our solar system. For instance a moon of Jupiter which is covered in ice but underneath it all is a vast ocean of water, yes water all on a place so distant from the sun. Also geisers that erupt ice not heat.

There is too much to talk about and to be able to explain in a review, it has to been seen to be believed.

The soundtrack to the series is also perfectly matched.

All in all this series is as my title states inspiring, fascinating and educating. I've always had an interest in astrology but after watching this series I am in the process of buying a telescope so that I can see these magnificent sights with my own eyes.

Cannot wait for the follow up series 'Universal'.

 Stunning in Hi-Def!!

I saw this series on the BBC and thoroughly enjoyed every single second on every episode.
If you missed the series and are interested in the Earth and the Solar System, than I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

If you have a blu-ray player, then choose this over a DVD as the Hi-Def is astonishing!

Great TV series led by the engaging and capable Dr Brian Cox that takes a look at our Planet Earth and looks at it, not from magnificent isolation, but from it's place within our solar system and a little beyond and shows us true wonders - both on our planet and far beyond it.

With excellent special effects - a treat in HD - to realise the stories told and aiding our perspective this is has been a real treat over the past few weeks on TV and with the excellent presenting skills of Dr Cox (who marries his facts and insights with easy to understand presentation and demonstrations) it's the magical combination of informative and entertaining!

I hope he presents more series along these lines in the future!

 Worth every penny

Wow, I've always been fascinated by programme series of this nature, i've followed several series about our solar system & the universe over the years. I have to say this series has not only been the most inspiring or the most moving but also the most factual in terms of scientifically. This is such a well made & well produced series, from the top quality CGI to the awesome audio (DTS) which sounds great on a home cinema system by the way :-) but also Professor Brian Cox who not only narrates the series but features visually throughtout, he explains things simply & creates a very personal touch. All in all this is an awesome journey, 1 of which I will take not just once, but again & again.

 Mesmorising........

Brain Cox speaks with such passion, and in such a way, that his intricate and scientific explainations become easy to understand and very easy to watch and most importantly never patronising.I truly believe everyone can gain something from watching this series.
