James Cameron's Avatar: Steelbook Combi Pack (Blu-ray & DVD) - Online Pre-Order Exclusive (With 4 Artcards & Book) (2009) (Blu-ray)

As epic a piece of cinema as it's possible to get. The combination of Cameron & the geniuses at Weta is clearly a good one. There are some nods to his earlier movies which made me grin and another fantastic score from James Horner brimming with an eclectic mix of sounds.

The stand out is obviously the production design - Pandora is a beautiful location filled with all sorts of weird & wonderful creatures. To think it only exists inside a computer is mind-blowing. The motion-capture/CG work is simply breathtaking. The emotion on the faces is so good at times I could have sworn it was an actor wearing prosthetics.

As a fan of James Cameron, it's great to see him back on the big screen. As a fan of film, it's comforting to know that at least *someone* in Hollywood knows how to craft a blockbuster filled with effects without sacrificing the story.

___Blu-ray release___

It's worth noting that this release contains no extras. There is a plan to release a more comprehensive set later in the year - currently scheduled for November.

I'm sure this Blu-ray will look stunning, but if you're after the behind the scenes insight, perhaps best to hold onto your hard-earned cash for a while longer.

What a master work!

This film has to be seen to be believed it is a totally wonderful visual treat. This is a film for sci- fi lovers, others might find it harder going. I loved it.

James Cameron has made many great films over the years which are as follows: "Terminator 1 & 2", "Aliens", "The Abyss", "True Lies" and "Titanic". For me Avatar is up there with the best of his films and is the best Sci-Fi film since the first "Matrix". Sam Worthington is very good in the leading role as "Jake" and he is becoming a bit of a mega star with the films "Terminator Salvation" and the new "Clash Of The Titans" under his belt too. It was nice to see Cameron use Sigourney Weaver again from the "Alien" because she is such a fantastic actress.
The Special effects in Avatar are amazing and the planet Pandora is full of colour and imagination. The wild animals are very exotic looking and the large floating mountains reminded me of the Yes album Topography: the Yes Anthology.
The story of Avatar doesn't show us humens in a very good light at all and is a mirror image of how we have been in the past and are still today in many ways. Money and greed and not caring enough about the wellbeing of are own planet. The Na'vi beings live at one with nature like the old native american indians use to many years ago. I really enjoyed the story to Avatar and James Cameron really knows how to do exciting action scenes too.
I was lucky as my copy of Avatar is a Limited Edition Steelbook with a T-shirt, 4 Lenticular Artcards and An Activist Survival Guide to Pandor. It still would have been nice to have some special features and a 3d version like they did with the new "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" which starred Brendan Fraser.
I enjoyed Avatar so much I got the game for the Nintendo Wii which has great Balance Board controls when you are flying your Banshee.

This is an all round film that everybody can enjoy!! The story is very good and it has a great cast playing the characters! The visual effects are outstanding and look nicely polished and colourful! The world that Cameron has created looks beautiful and you get sucked into the film almost! Dont over hype yourself if you have not seen it yet, its not the greatest film ever made but it certainly one of the best no doubt! To get the best of this film you will have to wait for the 3D version later in the year but the 2D version will satisfy for now!! This is indeed a film made for blu-ray!! Must own!
