This film started off with a completly different storyline than expected. It jumped right in there within the first 5-10 minutes, to pull off into a complete different tangent and explore a very unexpected storyline. Which enhanced the film twofold.

I really enjoyed this, Mel has had some issues lately through the press, but what ever that may be, in my eyes he has redeemed himself with this fantastic movie.

Throughly enjoyed this well paced action/thriller recommend 4/5!!

Main reason I got this was because Mel Gibson was starring in a lead role in a film since 2002 (Signs).
The film is a decent little thriller, not Great by any means. The main highlight is watching Mel Gibson is full on Vengance mode.
The guy just oozes star quality even in a buttoned down role like this.
Ray Winstone was ok in a role originally meant for Robert de Niro. Glad De Niro didn't do it, as it seemed a very small and strange role.
Average Movie, that Mel Gibson fans will defo enjoy

I was always a huge fan of the mid-80's BBC mini-series this movie was adapted from, and like 2008's excellent TV to Movie adaption of State of Play ( Russell Crowe) this updated stream lined version of the complex TV series is a damn good drama / thriller.
It's good to see Mel Gibson back in a movie after eight years of Directing epic blood bath's, and his very public meltdown and drink driving charge, and the odd ranting phone calls to his ex!
Gibson reprises the role that the late Bob Peck played in the original TV version, and although the updated plot has shifted sides of the Atlantic. Edge of Darkness turns into a Vengeance filled story as Gibson plays a well respected Boston cop who ends up having nothing left than get to the bottom of who and why his daugher was murdered. Mel Gibson's performance is excellent as although he has played this kind of character many times before, it's the emotional weight he brings that really hit's hard.
Ray Winstone also stars as a very shady goverment agent who helps in Gibson's investigation, and as always adds a bit of class.
The movie is directed with none flashy gritty style by Matin Campbell ( Edge of darknes TV series and the excellent Casino Royale ) that reminded me of the thrillers of the 70's.
Don't go thinking that this movie is going to be like lethal Weapon, as this is a plot driven movie and not a action based, and this is where the film is a success, as it makes a very refreshing change to all the CGI filled movies of the summer blockbusters.
If your a fan of the original series, and of course Mel Gibson then Edge Of Darkness demands to be seen.
