Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Oscar® winner Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar® winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother...and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.

Lawrence Talbot's childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother's fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline (Hugo Weaving) has come to investigate.

As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself one he never imagined existed.

This extended cut of The Wolfman includes 16 minutes of additional footage not shown in cinemas.

Reading the previous reviews regarding this movie i can't help but feel that attacking the original as being cheesey or a forgotten film is a mark of a poor reviewer.
The original Lon Chaney jnr movie is and will always be a classic for the genre and without it this would not have been made.
i truly enjoyed this movie because i felt that the film makers have kept the original spirit of the wolfman, as alway The special make-up by Rick Baker is phenomenal.
Its nice to see that the DVD release is bieng given the steelbook treament and can't wait to see the extended edition.
recommended for all fans of werewol movies

This is a very cool tale of horror in the form of the classic style werewolf, half man half savage beast! The visual effects in this movie are very good and the wolf man makeup is fantastic, very scary! The movie has some great gore to go along with it, people being torn apart all over the place! The cast is very good especially Hugo Weaving who is spot on with his dialogue as always!! If you like a good werewolf movie then you should certainly check it out, its a classic modern version of a film that feels like it was made during that period! Certainly a step up from the cheesy black and white version, not that anybody remembers it!!

 Good film!

I was pleasantly suprised that this film turned out as good as it did considering the production problems it went through. Intelligent Horror Fans will notice nods to several other Werewolf movies including An American Werewolf in London which make up artist Rick Baker also worked on. Speaking of Rick Baker look out for his small cameo as a hunter. The film is more brutal than I expected however it's let down slightly by a few CGI shots that could've been better. I can't say it has the charm of the Original but what remakes ever do? 1 thing I have to give this film huge credit for is its visuals! The old London backdrops are stunning! I can't wait to see the extended cut!

I am wondering if the previous reviews were watching the same film! I found the film fantastic and was so looking forward to seeing it...However when you watch a film you really look forward to seeing, sometimes you get disappointed...NOT with this film, It had everything that it should, great acting, great story and great special effects......

I found the film very atmospheric and loved the preriod setting....the story moved along spritely and the characters were well fleshed out....the horror was handled well and there some very tense moments....The retelling of a classic story was well handled and I cant wait to see the blu ray version as I think the Wolf growls are going to sound great on my system.....

Hpokins and Del Toro are perfect in there roles....not always a big fan of Hopkins but he was fantastic in this role.....

All in all great entertainment.......

See for yourself before judging, its well worth a look......
