 Brilliant Entertainment.

I dont understand why some people have given this film a poor rating? Or complained about the picture quality? Its brilliant entertainment from start to finish! Yes, its not the best film you will ever see, but for sheer entertainment value you cant go wrong. Sword fighting, Demons, A Sadistic killer who changes his ways. Picture quality is superb and the sound is even better. Those who say different about the picture or sound quality of this film either have their set-up wrong or have not got a clue! Great fun at a great price!

 TOP CLASS FANTASY

I purchased this blu-ray based on viewer reactions and was thoroughly absorbed in it. I'm not sure of the criticism that there is too much talk in it, for it moves along at a good pace, but does take time for some character development. The action sequences are excellent as are the fantasy creatures operating in this film. Essentially a story of redemption the lead actor james Purefoy is superb in the role of the troubled eponymous hero and he is ably supported by other fine performances such as those by Pete Postlethwaite and Alice Krige.
For those likeing action there is plenty of it; for those liking fantasy they should not be disappointed; for those liking an intelligent script they should find some substance here, especially in the realm of religious conflict, self preservation, redemption, loyalty and other such 'old-fashioned' themes. If it's just a modern action-blast then probably look elsewhere.
As a novice to blu-ray I was impressed by the detail and even in darker scenes the lighting was good and did not obscure what one needed to see. On my 5.1 sound system some scenes thundered out, especially the opening war sequence and the fire-demon sequence.
It is great to find a British movie that has such class and is so satisfying a film to experience. For me a top recommendation.

 Great Film

What a treat it was seeing this Film, the production values are very high indeed, the cinematography is exqusite, the Music fits in very well and its a very well acted Film.
But perhaps the most important aspect of this Film for me is Michael J Bassets direction, this young director is someone to watch out for, his narrative pace is good, the story which he wrote has very good Redemption emotions in it, and the Action scenes are so well handled, at long last no more "Quick Flashy Cuts" but widescreen cinematic sword fights where you can see what the actors are doing and where they are in relation to everyone else. How many times iv seen a film and everythings edited so fast, it looks good but thats about it!!! I wish now i had seen it at the Cinema,James Purefoy is Solomon Kane and plays him as a Tortured Soul and a killer with a concience, all the supporting actors are good. The Blu Ray transfer is one of the Best iv seen, some very scary scenes in it, and i for one am hoping for a Follow Up.

 HIGHLY ENJOYABLE

I watched this film on the back of a few solid reviews I had read on it as I had never really heard of it before this.
I for one found this medi evil film to be quite good fun, It is a tad slow to begin with after the opening 5 minutes have passed and the film seems to plod along for half an hour until the action returns.
The action scenes are good they are quite bloody and gruesome as well.
The lead role of Solomon Kane is played by James Purefoy of Rome fame I had never seen him before as I am not a fan of Rome but thought he put in a solid performance in the titular role and carried the film well.
As a few other reviews have said the film does seem a tad choppy which makes you wonder if this film has been cut down to fit in with studio bosses over run time and I would like to see a full directors cut version in the future.
In closing if your a fan of medi evil films then this is for you it has a feel of a grown ups version of Willow and Legend.

 a cracking film

First off a warning, don't expect an all out action movie, this film is very story driven, having said that when it is told so well , you don't really mind ,it has a real atmosphere to it that just draws you in , Purefoy's performance is superb and you really do get the Kane is wrestling with himself every step of the way , light and dark, ultimately this is about what is good and what is truly evil, and the lines being blurred, a brilliant film that i really hope gets a sequel
