Based on the bestselling novel by Stieg Larsson, this acclaimed Swedish thriller tells the nail-biting story of a journalist and computer hacker who team up to investigate a mysterious murder. Order today to see why David Fincher and Daniel Craig have signed up for the Hollywood remake!

From the literary phenomenon by Stieg Larsson comes this gripping new thriller which will have you guessing right until the very end.

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses, no evidence. Nearly forty years later a journalist by the name of Mikael Blomqvist gets an unusual assignment. He's contacted by Harriet's uncle, Henrik Vanger, who wants him to find out what really happened to Harriet. Mikael takes on the job, with help from mysterious biker girl and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. This unlikely pair form a fragile bond as they dig into the sinister past of this family and find out just how far they're prepared to go to protect themselves - and each other.

sometimes a film comes along that's just 'too good to miss' i believe this movie falls into that category.
the film is a fast moving and engageing watch.
it tells the story of 'lisbeth salander' who in truth has trloubles of her own, but after following a court-case as a part of her job she continues to take an interest in 'mikaell bloomkvist's' activity's by hacking into his computer hard-drive
at the request of 'henrik vanger' a wealthy but ageing business-man, 'mikael' is invetigating the sudden dissapearance of 'henrik's' niece some 40 years ago.
the police had never been able to find any evidence in their search for the 16-year old 'harriet' ----'lisbeth' see's a link on 'mikael's' files to a series of killings, the two link up to try and solve the mystery.
what they find is far beyond expectation.
the film is available in both swedish ( original ) or 'english audio.
a previous reviewer mentions the book is better than the film, that of course is often the case, however book-aside it is a very good film

Great film shame about the Blu Ray

This is a warning for people who hate unskippable trailers. Because this has 3 and one of them is an advert for Twix. It's absolutely unforgivable. Other Momentum dvds are the same, so I will never buy from them again, which is a shame. But do watch the film because it's awesome.

 What about the extended versions?

I've read the book and seen the film, both of which are excellent and Noomi Rapace is utterly brilliant; its impossible to catch in the film all the detail that's in the book but it would help if the extended versions, as originally shown on Swedish television ( 3 hours long ) were available in this country, as they are in Sweden and some other European countries. Anybody know if they are going to be released later this year, perhaps in a box set of all three films? That I would pre order!

 Rapace steals the show

Yes it's slow burning but I was glued to my screen for the whole two and a half hours. A brilliant character driven murder mystery that, if you haven't read the book, WILL keep you guessing until the end.
However it's Noomi Rapace that absolutely steals the show, why she hasn't been picked up for the Hollywood remake is a complete mystery - not that i'll be watching it though. Since when has a Hollywood remake been better than the original?

THE BEST THING TO COME OUT OF SWEDEN SINCE ABBA!

Don't be put off by the fact that this brilliant thriller is subtitled as you will be missing one of the best films of 2010. As a added bonus if you go to the set up feature you can watch the film with a very well dubbed English audio.
The film is bases on the best selling trilogy of books about Lisbeth Salander with a very bleak past and a disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist as they have to unite and solve a case of a missing girl. The mis-smatched duo form a brillianty edgy alliance as they dig into the past and unravel a dark and appalling secret.
This is a complex mystery, but credit should go to both leads as Noomi Rapace ( soon to be seen in Sherlock Holmes 2 and Ridley Scott's planned Alien Prequel) gives a brilliantly edgy performance as Lizbeth that shows that she will become Hollywood's next hot property. Michael Nyquist as Mikael is great as the journalist and gives a strong performance. The film slowly grips as the clues mount up and by the final reverlations the movie is utterly compelling.
The movie lives up to the hype and now Hollywood plan on a pointless English speaking version, but the good news is that David (Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac) Fincher is to direct.
This is a truly gripping and electifing thriller from the start all the way to he breathless finish.
