This is the one we've all been waiting for! The mother of all shockers is finally available to buy in stunning hi-def in this feature-packed 50th Anniversary Steelbook edition. Fully remastered with an optional 5.1 soundtrack, Hitchock's landmark chiller has never looked or sounded better.

Starring Anthony Perkins as the troubled Norman Bates, whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No one knows that better than Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), the ill-fated traveller whose journey ends in the notorious shower scene. First a private detective (Martin Balsam), then Marion's sister (Vera Miles) search for her as the horror and suspense mount to a terrifying climax where the mysterious killer is finally revealed.

With a fantastic film like this which lets face it i hope you know, you would be more interested like me on the Blu-ray transfer, than telling you all about Norman Bates in the motel. Well first of all there is only so much you can do with a Black and White film, however, they have managed to achieve the best possible picture from the negatives that were available. The sound re done in 5.1 and is great a lot of care and effort to take the mono soundtrack and make it sound fresh and knew. (if you don't like things being fiddled with then the mono track is there). The extras appear to be no different to the special edition DVD. The rating is for the quality not the film, this is a 5 star film without question. If you do not have this at all the Blu-ray edition is for you, if you have the DVD apart from the soundtrack do not expect miracles.

Excellent new edition of a classic.

The film itself needs little introduction. Fifty years old and still able to knock the socks off other horror's made since.

Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) absconds with $40,000 from her employer thinking it will solve the problems of her and her lover. Checking into the Bates Motel run by the young Norman Bates (Anthony Hopkins) events take a turn for the worse..........which of course leads us to one of the most famous sequences in all of cinema history!!

This new Blu-Ray edition of the film looks absolutely stunning for it's age and there's also a brand new 5.1 sound mix employed that brings the film to fresh life and a featurette on the making of that aspect. Speaking of extras, this edition is loaded with them! From a making of, through other interviews (including some of the Truffaut ones relevant to 'Psycho', poster art, newsreels, trailers etc there is also a 25 minute episode of 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' included starring Barbara Bel Geddes in a delightful little tale with a delicious twist in it!

All in, an excellent Blu-Ray and I would say probably worth buying even if you already have 'Psycho' on one of the many previous DVD editions.
