Outlaw. Warrior. Hero.

Academy Award winner Russell Crowe reunites with legendary Gladiator director Ridley Scott for epic action adventure in Robin Hood.

Discover the untold story of the man behind the legend as Robin, a heroic warrior, turns outlaw when he assembles a band of skilled marauders to confront injustice and lead an uprising against a weak and corrupt English King.

When the rebellious hero falls for the spirited Lady Marion (Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett), he must first save her village and then confront a growing storm of threats from near and afar if he is to win her heart. As Robin and his men answer a call to ever-greater adventure, these unlikely heroes set off to battle for their country and return England to glory... and ride into Legend.

Much better than most reviewers give it credit for

Firstly (and most importantly) this is NOT Gladiator. Different story, different country, different time. If you don't get this then stop reading as you are wasting your time.

Ridley Scott is THE Master of this kind of storytelling so enjoy all his films for what they are, not what you wish them to be.
Russell Crowe (accent faux pas' aside) is simply wonderful in this sort of role and Cate Blanchett is at her best since "Elizabeth I & II"). Mark Strong is excellent as the baddy and a vintage Max Von Sydow turns in a delicate performance as a man having to deal with the world changing around him whilst he cannot see it for himself.

Lots of strong performances from many of the supporting cast adds to the premise of the story that is, in effect, 'The Making of Robin Hood'.

More films should be made of this quality instead of the teen garbage that Hollywood spews out by the bucketload. Occassionally they get it right - as in this case - so we viewing mortals have to respect them for that and avoid the other dross so that it fails to make any money and they get the message.

Long live King Ridley and long live Robin Hood!

Ignore some other reviews on here that arent helpful at all!! If they watched the whole thing they would understand.. that its the time before. It is a nice new perspective of the Robin Hood look and is set in the time before he became and how he became an outlaw.

This film was very good, the acting superb and Russel Crowe a complete gem.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, and would recommend it to anyone. Give it a go. I guarantee its worth your time!

In 2010 Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe reuintie for a new take on an old classic,

Russell Plays Robin Longstride who returns to England after the death of the King in battle, a promises to a dying Knight known as Robert Loxley to return a sward to his father take Longstride to Nottingham, back in england he and his men take the Knight's ID and witness Prince John become the King. It is not long before the two of them start to clash but with a french plan to invade, the two become uneasy allies.

All in all, the 2010 film of Robin Hood is good to watch but just falls short of being great, I hope there will be a 2nd film to tie everything together and make Russell Crowe the Robin Hood we know and love.

Just to get the average a notch up. I thought it was a very entertaining origin story, of how he became Robin Hood. The extended version should be a blast also. With Black Hawk Down among the best since Gladiator.
