Much more than a video nasty

| | See all RJNeb2's reviews (637)

Its reputation as a video nasty precedes it, but actually this is not the worst offender. Instead it happens to be a graphic and brutalising account of the male/female dynamics taken to extremes with Camille Keaton surely being one of the most put upon actresses on record. The film is most noted for a 25 minute rape scene that goes on and on (that is the point) and for its nasty revenge tactics. Which in the days of Saw and Hostel now are not all that shocking. Not an easy watch by any stretch of the imagination but it certainly brings home how savage we can be.

  graphic rubbish

it is clear from the first second of this movie that all of the energy went into the story and nothing else. a good idea that was pathetically executed with awful acting, terrible direction and a script a 5yr old could have written. it is graphic but not in a stylish way, and the budget was non-existent. the only reason people like this is because it was banned but really its rubbish.

  'a brutal tale'

| | See all rbmusicman's reviews (896)

this film when released was in the 'video nasty' category, and like so many others were ultimately banned, many quite rightly have not seen the light of day since.
this film however seems somehow to portray a sense of justification for the violence in the early stages being balanced by an equally violent revenge spree.
in truth the acting isn't brilliant, but in the main acceptable, the blue-ray transfer is also below-par.
it's just one of those films that you feel, because of the hype, you must watch.
the violence is pretty graphic and not comfortable to watch, but the end does seem to justify watching as the four rapists get their comupance.
the film has been re-made due for release later this year and promises to be even more graphic than the original......must admit just how realistic do we need to see such violence ?

  Ummm, this is not uncut.

It's very hard to 'like' this film. I saw it years ago (on the uncut Millennium DVD from America) and it is pretty hard to get through. The first 40 minutes are basically a series of extremely brutal rape scenes, and the rest of the film some well deserved retribution! Probably worth seeing if you want to see what all the fuss is about, and also may be worth watching if you're interested in the remake that is due out later this year.

I understand that this is the most complete version yet released in the UK, but to call it the 'Ultimate Uncut' edition is very misleading. From a quick look on the BBFC website, there are almost 3 minutes still snipped. Although I don't agree with censorship, on the whole, I may well pick up this version as I'm not in any rush to see any of the violence in the first half again, and from what I gather, all of the revenge is presented in all it's glory.
