A trio of films by the acclaimed Mexican director Guillermo del Toro.

Cronos (1993): A strange object, the "Cronos device", has been found inside the statue of an angel in an antique store. While the dealer, Jesus Gris, is holding the device, it springs open and its metallic legs pierces his flesh. Once "bitten", he develops a craving for human blood, and his body grows more and more youthful with each drink. As the addiction spreads through his body, he realizes he desires the blood of his innocent granddaughter...

The Devil's Backbone (2001): A deliciously dark horror, The Devil's Backbone tells the tale of a remote Spanish orphanage during the final days of The Spanish Civil War whose young inhabitants are brutally terrorised by Santi, a decomposing spirit who stalks the building's dark decaying hallways. But, as the film builds to a grisly, explosive finale, the children learn the true story of Santi's death and rise up to vow a deadly vengeance on his vicious murderer. Produced by Pedro Almodovar and brilliantly photographed for maximum suspence by leading cinematographer Guillermo Navarra, The Devil's Backbone is a truly haunting, memorable ghost story.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006): the story of a young girl that travels with her mother and adoptive father to a rural area up North in Spain, 1944 - after Franco's victory. The girl lives in an imaginary world of her own creation and faces the real world with much chagrin. Post-war Fascist repression is at its height in rural Spain and the girl must come to terms with that through a fable of her own.

I challenge anyone who doesnt think that Del Toro has one of the most vivid imaginations in the film industry. His use of fantasy and horror is spot on, while shaping it around an intelligent and amazing storyline.

Here you have Cronos, The Devils Backbone and Pans labrynth... all amazing films in one boz.

For anyone who doesnt realise, these films are all non-english, except for a few line in Cronos, but otherwise they are all subtitled.

The acting is all superb in each, whether its an elderly man or a young child, or a mythical creature. The images, colours and special effects look great... even on Cronos, which is a fairly old film now.

As for the picture quality.. you have to take into account the age of the films, but all look great in HD. Obviously Cronos and TDBB are going to have their moments of looking soft, but for older films they till look great.

Picture quality aside though... you watch a Del Toro film for the story, the acting and the imagery.

I personally love PansL the best. This is the same person gave us Blade2 and Hellboy2, and you can see how his amazing design skills have worked throughout them all.

My only issue with this one box set, is that the box itself feels like it will get damaged easily. It feels like its made of soft cardboard instead of something more rigid.

And removing the main box, to acces the discs, either requires you to force your fingers into a tight slot which may damage the box over time... or shake the box and wait for it to fall out.

Not great. Otherwise its a beautiful container, with a pull out 3D pop up image inside the front cover.

A bit gimicy, but nice.
