Great films can still be made!

Such a refreshing film that contains not one aspect of sex, drugs, swearing or violence. Just a great family film based on a true story about a dog who mourns his owner's non - return from work It is a well made film with great cinematography around a small American town that is sure to bring a tear or two to the eyes of many viewers. The acting is not fantastic but it doesn't have to be and the Blu Ray version I watched had a good transfer but little in the way of dynamic surround sound but then again it wouldn't. A film where Richard Gere has been upstaged by a dog (abd quite rightly so) and over all a great film for the family which I highly recommend.

the story is adapted from a true tale which took place in japan many moons since.
'hachi' a 'akita' dog is on route to a new owner, his cage that he'd travelled in is spilled on a railway platform, the pup is found by 'parker wilson' ( richard gere ) wandering on the platform, or should it be said 'hachi' finds 'parker'
the pup is taken home with the intention of finding the intended owner, however nobody claims the young 'hachi'
'parker' and 'hachi' become great pals, hachi as he becomes a little older walks to the station with 'parker' every morning and see's his friend off to his job as a lecturer.
every evening 'hachi' goes back to the station to greet his friend returning from work.
one day, 'parker' fails to return, 'hachi' even though the family moves away from the small town, returns to the town----then every day sits in wait for his friend 'parker' come rain and shine, of course 'parker' never returns.
this is a truly inspirational tale of loyalty which will bring you joy and moments of sadness............it's a lovely film------a dogs 'tale'

"Richard Gere" puts in a mighty fine and very touching performance as Professor Parker Wilson whom falls in love with a lost Akita puppy. His wife played by actress "Joan Allen" becomes very fond of the dog which is named Hachi. Hachi is a very clever dog that walks all the way to the train station to meet his master Professor Parker every day when he is coming home from work. The first half of the movie has a real good feel factor to it because the relationship between Parker and Hachi is very enduring and at times quite magical. The later part of this great story/film becomes a very sad and touching, which brought this young man to tears a little. Hachi A Dog's Tale is a real emotional trip which will be loved by all the millions of dog lovers out there and the blu-ray transfar is superb too.

 Overly Sentimental.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009) is a bittersweet drama inspired by a real life story. The cast includes Richard Gere, Joan Allen and Jason Alexander.

This movie is a heartwarming tale of loyalty but personally I found it to be a little too sentimental. Clearly the makers are trying very hard to tug on emotional heartstrings but at times its a little heavy handed.

Director Lasse Hallstrom (The Cider House Rules) is a master of the bittersweet and does a solid job here. Richard Gere gives a decent enough performance but sadly Joan Allen is wasted in a difficult to like role.
