Arn Magnusson is born in Western Sweden in the year 1150. He becomes a skilled warrior, and meets the love of his life, Cecilia but they are forced them apart. Cecilia is imprisoned in a monastery. Arn is sent to the Holy Land as a Knight Templar, where a holy war is raging. Arn and Cecilia both have to struggle to survive, to learn how to confront evil and overcome physical hardship.

Their separation causes their faith in God to waver - though not their faith in each other, and their conviction that they will one day be reunited. When Arn returns home, he has to fight for his love and what has become his mission: to unite Sweden into one Kingdom

 Very accurate Swedish film

Based on the bestselling books by Swedish author Jan Guillou, about the sympathic character Arn. This film is everything the overproduced Hollywood titles should be, a very honest enterpretation of an era I personally find very interesting.

 a must!

I just love it , I have lot the count of how many times I have seen this film, even friend who hate having to read the film got converted thanks to Arn. And it is nice to open the doors to other cultures and learn a little about their history

ive read reviews here and elsewhere, that theres hints of braveheart in this. sorry, but there is nothing of the awful, inaccuracy-laden hollywoodfest gibson vehicle in this at all.what this is, is a superb story, brilliant acting, a film with atmosphere.the fight scenes are also very well done - not the long, drawn out, over the top style. and i agree, good that swedish, middle eastern dialects are spoken with subtitles, instead of it all being dubbed into english - that would be truly awful- like downfall, let the right one in etc... the dialogue spoken in the original language adds to the film.i would highly recommend this hidden gem.

I read the trio of books and was waiting on the film, it was great. No over the top hollywood touchs, good storyline, good acting and didn't dwell on what could have lead to 20 minute battle scenes.

 Underground classic

Bought this expecting a blood and guts medieval film but what I got was a well written brilliantly acted story about a young monk who trains to become a knight The story follows Arn through childhood into his role as a Templar in the Middle East and his return to his homeland to start a family The acting knocked me out and the costumes and sets where brilliant its not a romance nor a action movie its just a great story definitely girlfriend friendly too
