Robert Downey Jr. picks up the pipe in Guy Ritchie's action-packed reinvention of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. With the help of Watson (Jude Law), Baker Street's super sleuth must battle through all kinds of trouble to solve a case that threatens the future of good ol' Blighty.

On a quest to solve a string of mysterious and brutal murders, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his trusted ally Watson (Jude Law) plunge into a world of dark arts and startling new technologies, where logic, and a good right hook, are the best crime fighting weapons. Explosive action, baffling mystery and astonishing intrigue follow the two in a race to uncover and foil a terrifying plot that threatens to destroy the country. Director Guy Ritchie helms the all-action adventure reintroducing the great detective to the world. Robert Downey Jr. is the new Sherlock Holmes!

Guy Ritchie just seems to be getting better with every movie he makes...this is tremendous fun & superb entertainment! The onscreen chemistry between Robert Downey Jr & Jude Law works like a dream, in fact all the cast excell in their roles & Mark Strong as the villian is what defines a great actor. The attention to period detail is amazing & Victorian London is recreated perfectly. Non-stop action from the word 'GO' with expertly choriograped fight sequences & totally convincing CGI... its a breath of fresh air & will keep you entertained right up until the final moments when Holmes exclaims: 'I think we should reopen the case!' Please Mr Ritchie, can we have a sequel? Highly Recommened on blu-ray with great PQ & Audio.

@ peejay123 - Sherlock Holmes was a gentleman fighter and fought many an enemy in his books and the old TV series, be it fisticuffs or with weaponry - as well as his intellect. The South African in The Solitary Cyclist being one example off the top of my head. I think Richie has really done his research for this movie by including and getting right characters like Irene Adler, also.

Great movie, good script, great action sequences and I was really happy with how close to the original characters this movie really was. Downey-Jnr and Law are a great pairing too. It's going to be great on Blu Ray! I'm ordering this now!

 Surpisingly surprised

Before the film even hit the cinema's it was slandered. Guy Ritchie doing Sherlock Holmes? This cannot be. However, for all the doubters (me included) I have to admit this is a wonderful film in almost all aspects.

It's unlike anything Ritchie has directed before, with a big budget and lots of quirky one liners. Apart from the script being extremely witty, we have the very underated Downey Jnr portraying the title character to a tee. Add a very creepy, quite surreal story and a more than capable Jude Law and you've got yourself a very entertaining, if a little silly in places, enjoyable film.

Give it a go, it's enjoyable to say the least

 This movie is atrocious

The only thing missing from this movie is an american flag and an America saves the day ending. That's right people, Sherlock Holmes is no longer the the detective slouth he used to be, he's now a swashbuckling, ass kicking, brain thumping action hero.

Hollywood really need to stop making movies and leave it to the real pros at independant studios because Hollywood truely suck at making good movies.
