This was a very clever film. Dont expect miracles though. Dont get me wrong its still bloody good!!
Not only does it capture you by the complete 10/10 gore value, it also has the 10/10 boob value for that different type of audience.
Very well put together, making you jump and cringe with disgust in some places. The acting was superb.
With a very good ending. Be warned now it is somewhat gorey!!
Recommend!!! 4/5
The original 1978 Piranha was a excellent low budget tongue in cheek parody of Jaws and other creature features. This remake / re-think really did surprise as although the trailers promoting this blood bath looked exciting enough, it also seemed to make the movie look dumb.
Actually the film is far from being dumb as it treats it's subject matter with the same self knowing wink as the original and also updates the story. The 3D effects are great as the killer fish go on the rampage after being released from their opened cavern, and chunks of bodies float around the screen infront of your eyes. The actual CGI effects of the prehistoric Piranha are good, but i'm not sure about haveing the fish squeal as a sound effect, but if they managed to make the Shark in Jaws the Revenge roar like a Lion, and act like a dolfin I'll go along with it.
The cast is very good for this kind of film, and adding Richard Dreyfuss reprising his role from Jaws is a smart move that sets the movie up well for all the bedlam that follows.
Director Alexandre Aja did a superb job remaking The Hills Have Eyes and again he does not disappoint with this.
It's all bloody silly fun with a brisk running time, but was made cheap enough to become a hit and now a sequel already to spawn , but let's just hope they don't make the mistake as with the originals sequel ( Piranha II Flying Killers ( A.K.A The Spawning) and give them wings.
It's not subtle, it's silly but its a load of bloody fun.
This double disc Blue Ray contains the 3D version for 3D TV's the 2D version and on the second disc it contains the old two tone 3D with two pairs of 3D specks. the real disappoiint comes with the lack of extra features, but with so much blood, gore and T & A in the movie there's very little to complain about.
This is a perfect movie to watch with a pack of beer!

Basically if you like wall to wall gore, boobs and kelly brook wearing not alot, you should buy this film. people who write reviews saying that theres no real plot are idiots, the plot is pretty much self explanetry.....piranha's eating people! its not a bloddy love story. bargain price aswell, buy buy buy!
at first i was dissapointed. not having a 3d blue ray player i assumed the 3d blue ray disc would not play in my standard player, with the 2d version being on that disc i felt ripped off. however it does play in a standard player in 2d only. watched it in both formats now.the 3d is no doubt inferior if viewed using old fashioned glasses, colours are not right, very edgy, but turn out the lights and its better, despite the draw backs of not being the new 3d format it is very enjoyable to watch. as a standard movie in 2d highly enjoyable, classic mix of naked girls and gore with a bit of adult humor. all the things that made the classic b movies so enjoyable.buy and enjoy.
THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS MOVIE FOR ME. some one had the sense to put both the blueray and blue ray 3d discs in the same box. to me thats a must.wont buy a blueray 3d tv/ player as there is a lack of movie and free to view tv. if the tv/ film industry wants to push this format giving you both versions in one box is a must. once people have built up a collection of 3d movies by buying them for the 2d version they might be more inclined to spend a bit more should they replace their tv in the future and buy a 3d version. also its future proofing your collection, there is enough rip offs already, like holding back directors cuts, knowing people will buy the same film again in a year,( avatar, lord of the rings trilogy). with the price of extra pairs active 3d glasses for 3d tvs its unlikely most people will be able to invite their mates over to watch the movie unless the 2d version is included. rant over, enjoy the movie.
