Personally, I think this is a great little horror thriller that has a refreshing twist at the end.

Kate Hudson, a nurse in New Orleans, becomes a nursemaid at the remote plantation house of Gena Rowlands and John Hurt, who has been immobilised since suffering a stroke while up in the attic of the house. Exploring the place herself, she discovers not only a mysterious locked room filled with gruesome trinkets in the same attic, but also finds herself drawn into the world of 'hoodoo', Southern magic spells and incantations that will only work on someone who believes in it's power to harm them.

But is someone in the house using this magic for their own ends, and is Hudson in danger from them?

I find it to be a well written and plotted film, the clues and twists are nicely placed through the story and it all builds to a fine finale, with a terrific performance from the luminous Hudson (who is so like her mother Goldie Hawn it's uncanny) and support from Rowlands, Hurt (great though he has no dialogue virtually) and Peter Sarsgard as the family lawyer.

And like I said, it has a neat little twist right at the end, that's a little unusual for a major film. It's probably not a film that MUST be seen on the Blu-ray format however, as the DVD edition appears deleted now by Play.com itself it might be worth picking up on the format if you can't get a DVD copy.
