Reinventing Star Trek was always going to be controversial, but Lost's J.J. Abrams has pulled it off with style, creating a bold vision that is faithful without being slavish. The young cast step boldly into iconic roles, and the action is bigger and more epic than ever before!

Director J.J. Abrams (Alias) re-teams with his MI: III screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to bring a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time.

  • Commentary by J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci

What a great film!! About the best two hours of top-notch blockbustery-ness I saw in 2009 as we go back to the future and watch the USS Enterprise and her crew assemble for the first time and begin their voyages together.

The film goes back to the very start (courtesy of some time-travel goings-on that get explained to us by a very familar face) and shows us how James T. Kirk came into the world, whilst his future closest friend Spock struggles with his own mixed heritage on Vulcan. Meanwhile, in the darkness of space, a man with only revenge on his mind plans an event so huge it will bring both men together, with the rest of the famous crew in a stupendous adventure written wonderfully and directed with absolute confidence by J.J Abrams.

Much like Iron Man, and X-Men before it, this is the origin story to pave the way for hopefully deeper stories later. As the focus is on the journey to become 'the crew' the main villian effectiveness will differ for some. It also alters some things (particularly visually) from the original series and that too may affect some people's possible entertainment. But speaking as a Trek fan for over twenty years, I have to say that despite the changes made, I'm still onboard.

Because this is such pure cinematic FUN!! It's energetic, fast paced and never gives you pause for breath. It's a blast of an experience and probably one you will want to journey on more than once! The cast is exceptional, the effects superlative and dynamic, and I can't wait for the sequel already!!

The best star trek movie by miles

The picture and sound quality are second to none. The special effects are outstanding. The story line is superb. Perfectly balanced plot and loads of action. The writers have reproduced the atmosphere of the original series. The cast put in excellent performances capturing the essence of their predecessors traits. Zachary qinto was born to play Spock and the new kirk recreates the cockiness and swagger perfectly

Its good once you get your head around the new timeline, but how long before the series goes stale again? Not as good as first contact.

Excellent, I am not a Trekkie, although I enjoy the franchise, this is a superb story, excellent visual effects and a few twists along the way. Would be great to see the cast carry on with the story of the early years of the Enterprise.

Not a big fan of the Star Trek series but this film is most probably one of the best scfi films ever made. Outstanding effects and a brilliant story to back it. Chris Pine plays the part of Kirk brilliantly and also a very strong performance from Eric Bana as the evil Nero. Fantastic film it is a must own and if your not a fan believe me give it ago i did and loved it.
